[SOHH highlights a single each week and offers a unique look at the song. After SOHH True Grit contest winner #13 Ed. E Ruger tells listeners why "Dummy Disease" is bad for your health, Royce Da 5'9 explains why his track "Merry Go Round" deserves a second spin.]

"Merry Go Round" was a bit of a challenge, cuz I wanted to do something introspective, but I didn't want to do it the standard way: You know, the dark and slow approach. I definitely didn't want to do that, I wanted to do something a lil' more upbeat. I wanted the song to sound bright, but I wanted it to touch on things that usually come with a dark beat.

The song is [the story of] things coming full circle. My life basically went from good, to bad, to back good again.

If you document my career, things came full circle for me, so the whole merry go roung theme just spoke to me. When I originally got the song, the hook was a sample that I ended up resinging.

Aside from being really busy (which is kinda a good thing), life is pretty good right now. The sad part about it is I don't get to see my kids as much as I'd like to; the good part is being busy keeps me out of trouble.

Anybody that knows me can tell you there's always a slight possibility that I can get myself into trouble.

Detroit rapper Royce Da 5'9 is part of the collective Hip Hop group Slaughterhouse. In addition to his work with Eminem, Royce recently released the solo album Success is Certain.
