By this time tomorrow, Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV album should be sitting on over a million copies sold as its second-week sales projections have now been revealed.
According to reports, Weezy's latest solo effort will top its competition with up to 250,000 sold copies.
Lil Wayne will easily repeat at #1 this week despite a second week drop of around 75%. Although there is only one debut in this week's Top 15, there are, however, a few new entries. The Beatles 1 album re-enters the chart (and Top 5) thanks to becoming available digitally for the first time this week at iTunes. Following its debut atop the competition, Cash Money Records founders Slim and Baby shared their reactions.
"This is a tremendous accomplishment for Lil Wayne and everyone here at Cash Money," said Slim. "It's a tribute to the hard work and commitment he's shown from the very start." "I consider him my son, part of the Cash Money family from the very start," added Baby. "One thing I've learned. No record is safe from him." (Statement)
G.O.O.D. Music's Big Sean also gave his reaction to the enormous opening week.
"God d*mn, you remember we were talking about how much Lil Wayne was going to sell," Sean said in an interview. "I ain't gonna lie, I thought he was going to sell [500,000]. He sold 964,000? Oh sh*t. Man. Congratulations Lil Wayne, you sh*tted on everybody again. Again...Congratulations to him. I think that's like beautiful. That's inspiring to me. I'm trying to sell a million the first week. Lil Wayne really worked his a** off for that. He's been going since he was 13 with the Hot Boys to everything." (Rap-Up TV)
