Pulse Report: Soulja Boy Says Salute His Shorts, Game Over For Racism, Lil Wayne Steals The Show
Friday, Sep 9, 2011 12:15PM
In this week's Pulse Report, doggies, we take a close look at what went wrong with Soulja Boy Tell Em and the miltary, try to explain to Game why racism and dress attire policy are two different things, pat Lil Wayne on the back for stealing the week and oh SOHH much more!
[Editor's Note: The views of this column do not necessarily reflect those of SOHH.com]
1. Salute Your Shorts
First off, there's two things ALL doggies should take into consideration before bashing Soulja Boy Tell Em. Yeah, y'all are mad and you are only 50 percent right for being tight. Now we all know whenever you bring up the police, you'll get a pass. Doggies, think about how many rappers have been arrested, raided and well, maybe even searched by the F.B.I. But when you bring the "military" into it? SMH. It's over. There's no way getting around it. It's kind of like saying "bomb" in an airport. You know what to say and when to say something that's wrong, doggies. Military? SMH. Doggy's career was already in limbo but now? Some things you just can't get passes for, doggies! Let's start off from square one:
"F**k the FBI and the army troops ... fighting for what? Be your own man ... ... I'll be flying through the clouds with green like I'm Peter Pan." ("Let's Be Real")
TMZ spoke with Fred A. Flores -- a retired Marine who is now a commissioner for the L.A. County Veteran's Advisory Commission. Flores tells us, "It's a very offensive statement ... especially with the 10th anniversary of 9/11 coming up." Flores -- who has two children currently serving in the military -- calls Soulja "Ungrateful" ... adding, "He should apologize to ALL armed forces." "[The rap] is very irresponsible," Flores stated ... "especially for a person who is an entertainer for the youth of our country." (TMZ)
^ SMH. The funny thing is if doggy would had said "F*ck Bush! F*ck Barack! F*ck the White House!," everything would have been peachy. LOL. But when you put the army into the picture? Nahhhhhh, that ain't right. Doggies, 9/11 is in a couple days. But then again, at the same time, doggy is only 21 years-old. Either way, some doggy must have got to him b/c Soulja Boy coughed up that apology faster than Kim Kardashian got married (again).
"As a young man who grew up in the post-9/11 era, I have watched our country fight two wars that seem like they are never going to end. I have seen thousands and thousands of our brave men and women get killed in battle and often times, I think for what? A lot of people in this country are struggling to make ends meet and I think a lot about what if we had never gone to war. Where would our economy be? Our schools, our after-school and work programs, our streets? I mean, d*mn, 48 people got shot in New York City just this past weekend ... in 3 days ... I'm not saying that it is just because of a bad economy, but at a certain point we have to take care of our own people." (Hollywood Reporter)
"In no way would I ever want to offend those who are protecting our freedoms ... a lot of homeboys who I grew up with, a lot of people who come from the neighborhoods we live in ... In no way do I want to hurt any of our honorable soldiers who put their lives at risk, regardless of how they feel about the two wars we fight in. I am just frustrated that we haven't been able to bring you all home quick enough and my frustration got the best of me. I am deeply sorry." (Hollywood Reporter)
It turns out not even an apology could ease things over. LOL!!!
Retired Marine Fred A. Flores has already branded the lyrics "offensive" and an online petition has been started, campaigning for the star's music to be banned from U.S. military bases. Now former infantry sergeant Leo Dunson has slated Soulja Boy, real name DeAndre Cortez Way, in a track called Change Your Name. (OK! Magazine)
Take it from me, when you get a movement going, especially a military one, it's hard to stop it. Something about doggies only hearing HALF a story and getting fueled to the brim can mean the difference between you losing a career and you losing a life. Let's be real. Those military doggies, well, some of them, are not always there in the head and could take that army diss a little too personal. But until then, Soulja Boy is going to have a really hard time selling units in military spots:
Soulja Boy's Army-bashing situation is approaching DEFCON 1. The U.S. military announced that it will boycott the rapper's upcoming album if it contains the controversial song "Let's Be Real. Almost immediately after, the armed forces reacted strongly against the rapper and have installed a ban on his album in over 3,000 Army and Air Force Exchange Service stores. The Exchange is set up by the United States Department of Defense to sell products, with the purpose of generating income for the United States Army and Air Force Morale. The move was announced by LTC Thomas Shrader, who also said that the lyrics "are unacceptable and not the kind of thing we would want to market." (New York Daily News)
And the really sad thing about it? Doggy's camp is already doing everything they can to take the track down. SMH. LOL. Really though? Soulja Boy only pushed out 12K, do y'all think this is going to really destroy him? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
2. Thank You, Come Again
LOL!!!!!!!! Doggies, don't get it twisted, I do believe racism is still strong in 2011 but the stunt that Game tried to pull off this week? LOL!!!! I don't even know where to start. I mean, claiming Houston's is a racist spot b/c they wouldn't let you in is one thing...........UNTIL we find out you didn't follow the dress code. Let me take y'all doggies back real quick:
"The mgr "Valerie" @ the Houstons resturant in Santa Monica is RACIST. She really just told me I cant eat cuz Im tatted n guest mite b scared," he tweeted September 6th.
"& when I pointed out 2 kool white guys with tank tops on, She stated they don't have as many ratios as you & said that I leave immediately"
"Houston's just went from my favorite resturant to the "RACIST-URANT" !!!!"
"Hillstone's racist-urant formerly known as Houston's & their slave-master manager Valerie has just made #1 on the RACIST resturant list !"
"Now headed to "Roscoes Chicken & Waffles" where us N*GGERS are tattoo approved 100% accepted."
"Where the f%$k is @TMZ when you need em ?!?!?!? #rosaparkswasntenoughhuh" (Game's Twitter)
^ SMH. Doggies, this ain't Florida and it definitely is not some Country Kitchen, so why Game thinks he is getting singled out is beyond me. Los Angeles may have a Planety Hollywood but this ain't that either. But before Butters gets too worked up, peep what the doggies had to say:
A rep for the restaurant tells us ... Game only pointed to a lone sleeveless woman at the bar -- NOT two men -- and says the sleeve rule does not apply to females. The rep says the restaurant would love to have The Game back ... when he's wearing the appropriate clothing. (TMZ)
^ LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Maybe the manager was a Jay-Z fan? LOL. Seriously though, doggies, for anyone trying to defend Game is a loose cannon. I mess with Game at the end of the day but thinking doggy can get a pass? LOL. Come on, a tank top with his goons? LOL!!!!!! Maybe ma?a-naaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!!!
3. Doggy of the Week: Lil Wayne
Y'all doggies wanna know what defines a true hater? A true hater is the doggy that disses Lil Wayne and calls his new album a FLOP because it didn't sell a million copies like his previous one. Oh, but it did happen to sell 965K. LOL. Aight, so it was a no-brainer that Lil Wayne is our doggy of the week. I mean, album sales through the roof, then you got doggies that are so tight that they think CMB is buying copies. LOL!!!!! Then you got doggies trying to make albums with him, the president, well, Young Money president, saying to forget about those retirement plans and then a trip out to Austrailia with the "KING OF HIP-HOP". LOL!!! Doggies, give this doggy a firm hand clap!
Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV debuted on the chart this week at No. 1. According to Nielsen SoundScan, Weezy's long-awaited new album has sold 965,300 copies after just a week of availability.
^ I said it once and I'm going to say it again, doggies. There's no way y'all can hate on Wayne's new LP. I mean, not even Watch the Throne touched that many albums. I would have been shocked if it did 500-600K, but 900K? SMH. Doggies are out there complaining about the price of Starbucks and Netflix going up but y'all got paper to spend on a "bad" album, according to y'all. LOL.
"Nah, man, that really don't make no sense. Why would we do that?" he said. "I press and distribute 'em. Ain't no need for me to buy 'em. That's hustling backwards; we ain't in it for that. I ain't ever been a part of that type of scheme to be buyin' records. We don't do that, homey. We be working too hard to be -- that don't go with what we do. We truly what we do. We're real about what we do, we work hard every day at it, and we work for the people. That's what we do music for: for people. And we appreciate the love they give us back. But no such thing as me buying no CDs. I wouldn't even play it like that."
^ Are doggies really mad to the point that they're accusing Birdman of buying Wayne's albums? LOL!!! He's not even No. 1 on Forbes list, what makes y'all think he would just be wasting his money. I mean, come on doggies. It's one thing to say Wayne cheated by selling his album on a Monday instead of Tuesday, but that Cash Money was trying to buy the albums? LOL!!!!!!!!! I mean, if they bought 965K, why not just spend that extra $$$ and go for 1 million? SMH. I swear, y'all doggies are funny.
"I would love to see a Rick Ross, Lil Wayne and Drake album, you know what I'm saying," Khaled said in an interview. "I would love to be a part of that, you know what I'm saying? Maybe that'll happen one day."
"As far as that retirement goes, I don't know what he's talking about," YM President Mack Maine told XXLMag.com. "I'm not trying to hear that -- I mean technically he can. We paved the way where Young Money the brand is gonna be so big. And he's done so much where he can just tour. But I know his love and passion for the music.... I also know he has love and passion for his kids and family and he sacrificed a lot of this life we living. So at 30, if he says he wants to hang it up and be a family and a businessman, I wouldn't be mad at it. He'll be like 18, 19 close to 20 years in the game. And [have put out] that many albums. He'll be a vet at a young age. It's not like we're gonna need to put out albums, it's just the passion. Can you walk away from it?"
^ LOL. I still don't believe Mack Maine holds a presidential position at YM but that's another Pulse Report. I'm glad he kept it gully and admitted that Wayne isn't going anywhere. Remember when all of y'all got scared when Rebirth dropped? Come on, y'all thought Wayne had lost his cool and was going all-rock. But nah, he's back on things and the same is true with his music. He's not going anywhere doggies. LOL.
CONTROVERSIAL rappers Eminem and Lil Wayne will perform at Etihad Stadium on December 1. The rappers, who have both faced weapons charges, will headline a six-hour hip hop spectacular. Explicit rhymer Eminem almost had his tour blocked when he visited 10 years ago. Authorities warned him to behave or be booted out. Lil Wayne was jailed for eight months last year on a gun charge. But since these incidents, both rappers insist they have changed their tune. Eminem, 38, is sober and a primary caregiver to three daughters after almost overdosing on methadone four years ago.
^ LOL, *DEAD* @ "CONTROVERSIAL" rappers. LOL. Anyway though, that's a good look for Lil Wayne. I mean, he "is" with the King of Hip-Hop, right? I just don't get why spots outside of the US really paint rap like some violent, "Bloodsport" genre. Doggies are acting like it's 1993 or something. SMH. Anyway, Em and Wayne on one billing. That might even be hotter than Jay/Em.
4. Mrs. Butterworth: Wankaego
Doggies, first off, I have no idea how to pronounce this week's Mrs. Butterworth. Simply said. I decided to roll with this delicious delight because the name was something I've never seen before and oh yeah, SHE LOOKS GOOD! LOL. Sometimes you just have to go with your gut feeling and this feels right doggies. Plus the tattoo game is pretty sick as well. Enough of the B.S., feast your eyes on this juicy beauty!
Big props to Dynasty Series, who have the full sized images. But sometimes those photos don't do it complete justice, doggies. Clearly, she has the name "Wank" for a reason, doggies. LOL!!! So for those times when you need a little bit more proof? Yeah, y'all know I gotcha!
^ Doggies, it's back to school time. Get yourselves wifey'd up! And just because Wankaego is a little too spicy for some to handle, peep her World Star video clip right here. SMH. I miss being single, doggies! LOL!!!
^ LOL!!! Yeah, what that doggy said! LOL!!!!
5. "STFU" Honors
LOL!!!!!!!!!! Doggies, I think the door is wide open for shots to start getting fired at Jay-Z. But that's a whole other story. LOL. Turns out Butters had to really get some Fab 5 picks this week b/c there were a definite Elite 8 "STFU" Honors choices that all could have worked in here. I really wish I could put some captions into each of these myself. LOL. First off, Naturi Naughton, we've seen what you have to offer in Notorious, so let's not act like your ta-ta's are off limits. I mean, we've even seen what Nicki Minaj has to offer, so PLEASE. Next? Lupe Fiasco showing off that bi-polarism and going at not only Jay, but Kanye West, Drake AND Lil Wayne? LOL!!! Guess those Lasers are in full effect. Benzino? Your son and Jay in the same sentence? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The last two are the usuaul suspects, doggies. Drake making outlandish comparisons (even worse than what Zino said) and DMX? LOL. Doggies, if you didn't know by now, y'all have entered the infamous, "SHUT THE F*CK UP" Honors! Sit back and ride it out!
"A lot of people ask me that. You know, I'm an actress. I'm not a Playboy model. I'm not a Playmate. I'm not any of those things, which is nothing wrong with that but I'm just an actress playing a Playboy Bunny," Naugton explained in an interview. "Don't get it twisted. Not to say that I would never consider doing the magazine, but if I did pose it would definitely have to be classy and something respectable and something that I feel comfortable with. So who knows! I would never say never."
"When you're done Watching The Throne, turn around and watch me, when you're done with Tha Carter IV come back to me for more, when you're done with that Drake, no, I ain't trying to hate but I'm back up on my grind and I'm about to skaaaaate on these n*ggas....Put it on your blog and your Tumblrs on your Twitters that Lupe said that he's the best, n*gga!"
"I think the young generation sees themself totally different than I would probably see them, as far as beat wise. When I see Ray Ray, I see a young Jay-Z. But of course, Jay grew up differently. Ray's generation aint the same, but just his persona and the way he goes [about] things, I definitely see it."
"This guy right here," Drake said motioning to Ross as the two sat at Lil Wayne's Tha Carter IV release party Sunday, "That God Forgives I Don't; the only way I can describe it is like Doggystyle or Ready to Die or Clipse Lord Willin' or any of the albums that I collected and held on to as a kid -- whether it was cassette or CD."
"My assistant does," X said when asked if he has a Twitter page. "I'm not that dude. I'm not that dude that's gonna sit there, type 'I'm going to the bathroom.' Nah. That's not me. You know what I'm saying? Catch me in traffic or don't catch me at all."
***Doggies, it's going to be an emotional roller coaster this weekend so just be ready to grab those Kleenex b/c it's going to be a lot of televised programming for September 11th. Ten years, few wars and bad politics later and we are still here. Y'all be safe out there, catch y'all on Tuesday! --BB***
