Not since Petey Pablo urged the nation to swing their white-T's like a helicopter has North Carolina seen this kind of shine, which is kind of odd, considering it's reasonably close to Atlanta, which seems to spew out new rappers by the hour. It also isn't very far from New York, Hip-hop's Mecca. Which leads into our question of the day -- Is North Carolina the next state to pump out a gang of new artists?
When you think about "rap states," California and New York are typically the first to come to mind. In recent years, Atlanta, Detroit and Texas have begun to plant their imprint into Hip-hop culture as well. Might we soon be saying the same thing for NC? Granted, 9th and Tigallo have several years (and retail releases) under their belt, but perhaps what we are witnessing is the forefront of a new state to be reckoned with on the mic.
In the mid-2000's, St. Louis had a little buzz, and Kanye helped put the spotlight back on the Chi around the 2003-05 era of rap, with three anticipated releases from N.C. slated for Tuesday, let's watch and see what the future has in store for the Tarheel State.
