Atlanta producer MeMpHiTz has come forward to address making headlines a few days ago for getting arrested at his hometown airport on a gun possession charge.

His publicist released a statement explaining what really went down at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport.

"Due to an unfortunate series of events, Mr. Wright was arrested at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport with a firearm. Although he does have a valid license to carry the weapon, he had no intention of transporting it on the plane. In his haste to make his flight, he neglected to remove the firearm from his luggage. He has since been released and is fully cooperating with the authorities. He hopes to resolve this matter quickly." (Statement)

MeMpHiTz also appeared before a judge this week and admitted his mistake.

Mickey "Memphitz" Wright, who costars with wife Toya Carter in BET's "Toya: A Family Affair," was in court Tuesday on a charge that he carried a gun in his carry-on bag into Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. Wright told a judge, "I just wanted to say to you that I would never intentionally take a firearm to the airport. I just forgot that it was in my backpack," according to Channel 2 Action News. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)

During the courtroom session, Judge Daphne Walker reminded him of his mistake.

The judge noted that Wright does have a valid Georgia firearm carry permit. "You do have to be careful when you go to the airport to be sure you remove it," Walker told him. Outside court, Channel 2's Richard Elliot tried to get an interview with Toya, but she had no comment on the charges. Earlier, outside the courtroom, she mentioned that she thought this had all been blown out of proportion. (WSBTV)

The producer, who is married to Lil Wayne's ex-wife Toya Carter, was arrested Monday (August 22).

Toya's new hubby was arrested at Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport in Atlanta yesterday after he tried to bring a gun onto an airplane. TSA agents discovered the weapon while running MeMpHiTz's backpack through an X-ray scanner and promptly called for backup. (S2S Magazine)
