News: R. Kelly Responds To Emergency Throat Surgery Reports, "I Will Be Back!"

Grammy-winning singer R. Kelly has come forward to confirm reports claiming he underwent emergency throat surgery this week and, as a result, will be unable to perform for an indefinite amount of time.
Writing on his Twitter page, Kells assured fans he would make a strong recovery.
"I'd like to thank everybody for their love, concern and support. I WILL BE BACK!," he tweeted July 20th. (R. Kelly's Twitter)
Details of the unexpected medical complication became public Wednesday (July 20) afternoon.
The 44 year-old Kelly, whose real name is Robert Kelly, was in severe pain and was rushed to a Chicago hospital on Tuesday where an abscess on one of his tonsils was drained, according to a statement from spokesman Allan Mayer. (Reuters)
The singer's publicist, Allan Mayer, said he has suffered throat pain as of late.
Kelly's publicist Allan Mayer said Wednesday that doctors drained an abcess on one of Kelly's tonsils on Tuesday and that the singer will be "laid up indefinitely" at Chicago's Northwestern Memorial Hospital. Mayer says Kelly had been complaining of throat pain recently and was rushed to the hospital after a throat exam. (USA Today)
Kelly's emergency operation has forced him to miss this week's Reggae Sumfest in Jamaica.
R Kelly, will not be performing on Friday, at this year's Reggae Sumfest -- an annual music festival held in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Publicists for Summerfest Productions, Headline Entertainment, told the Observer today that a replacement act is being sought to fill the breach left by Kelly's absence and said a release would be issued this afternoon.
