Maybach Music Group's Pill recently opened up about the origins of his rap alias and how it is ultimately inspired by his past football career in high school.
According to Pill, he was given the nickname based off his performance playing football.
"Pill came from football actually," he revealed in an interview. "That's the nickname for the pill. In one game, a JV game, I showed up, caught a couple touchdowns, I ran one back -- I caught like 10 passes. I showed my a** that game. So they started calling me Pill Pill. And when I started taking music more seriously, I called myself Pill. I cut it short, and I said I'm the cure for rap cancer." (Generation Next)
Last March, Pill talked about joining rap star Rick Ross' Maybach Music Group.
"It's an honor being part of MMG," Pill said in a video. "Seeing what Ross did with his movement. I said, 'It's only right that I make that next step.' ... I remember listening to all of [Ross'] sh*t and being like, 'Man how the f*ck does he pick those beats?' I don't got that formula and it's only right that you put Pill with the formula and let my formula combine with it. Then we'll go on and take it to the sky. There's no time to waste." (Dre Films)
