Newly signed Columbia Records artist Kreayshawn has been signed less than a week and has already tackled comparisons of her image and style to platinum-selling pop star Ke$ha.

Calling the comparisons premature and typical due to sharing a white background, Kreayshawn said she is optimistic about how fans will view her in the coming months.

"She's cool," Kreayshawn said about Ke$ha, adding that she believes the comparisons stem from both artists being White. "I wouldn't compare myself to her, but she's pretty sweet. I think people just compare something to something else just 'cause they don't know what it is and they want to relate it to something like, 'this is like Ke$ha.' They don't want to be like, 'this is new. I never heard of it. It's Kreayshawn. No, it's just some shit we kinda heard before.' Kreayshawn is Kreayshawn. People are gonna be like, 'this reminds of Kreayshawn' in a couple of months. I'm trying to work." (XXL Mag)

In addition to achieving platinum success, Ke$ha recently snagged elusive rap veteran Andre 3000 for her "Sleazy" remix.

"I sent him the track and was fully aware that he's only been on a few songs in the past five years. But he ended up liking it. We got on the phone, and he said, 'With a flow like that, you could definitely have a career as a rapper.' It was the biggest compliment I've ever had. It was coming from a god! He's one of my favorite musicians, lyricists, rappers, of all time." (Rolling Stone)

An official announcement surrounding Kreay's signing to Sony/Columbia Records landed online yesterday (June 8).

East Oakland native, visual artist, swag assassin, and undercat Kreayshawn (Kray-shawn) has officially signed with Columbia Records, a division of Sony Music Entertainment. The 21 year-old will release "Gucci Gucci" via digital retailers on Tuesday, June 14th and prepare her forthcoming full-length debut album, due later this year. Described by GQ Magazine as a "loveable oddball," Kreayshawn says of the new partnership, "I'm excited to work with my new Columbia family. They understand my vision and are going to let me continue everything I've been doing. My hope is to inspire others to be young, wild, and free." (Press Release)

Last week, speculation emerged claiming she inked a $1 million deal with Sony.

Since her performance at SXSW in Austin, Texas in March, Kreayshawn has had the Internet going nuts. Rumored to have recently signed a $1 million contract with Sony after dropping her new video, 'Gucci Gucci,' which accrued 1.6 million hits on YouTube in two weeks, Kreayshawn is the next logical step for hipster hip-hop fans, following fellow West Coast oddball-indie success stories Odd Future and Lil B.
