[SOHH features a new entertainment personality each week to speak on who they feel is the most underrated artist. After Kafani gave Yukmouth the title earlier this week, Chingy names DJ Quik SOHH Underrated.]
The most underrated rapper. Man, there's a lot of rappers I like but the most underrated. Hmm. I always thought DJ Quik was underrated as a rapper and as a producer.
He's one of my favorite, favorite, favorite rappers if not the favorite. I think he's underrated because he's a dope lyricist and he perfects what he does. I've been in the studio and worked with him. We've done a couple songs together and I've watched him in the studio.
He has two partners, white guys, in the studio and they dress up as scientists. Seriously. They dress up as scientists in the studio and the way they work stuff is really unique and really is amazing because they know everything that goes on with the equipment. Just everything.
I remember this one time, for a beat, we needed some claps and so Quik was like, "We gonna go in the bathroom," and we were in there clapping our hands. He made it sound like it was a dope clap.
But I also think he's underrated as an artist because he's just dope. He's lyrically dope with the way that he puts things together and with his words and with his beats. So I'e always thought he was underrated.
Chingy got his start in the music industry spotlight around 2002 while working as an opening act for Nelly. He later befriended Ludacris and put out his first album through Disturbin' Tha Peace. After his multi-platinum success, Chingy went on to put out additional albums eventually spending time at Capitol Records and Def Jam. Currently working on his No Risk, No Reward 13 album, Chingy is trying his hand at the indie market.
