[With this week's Cash Money Content re-release of Iceberg Slim's The Story of My Life: Pimp, the late author's daughter Misty Beck provides her Top 5 reasons you need to stop into a bookstore this weekend.]
1. Back For The First Time
I think one of the reasons people should go out and purchase the book would be especially for the young people who can get it and see its re-release. Cash Money Content actually did a new cover for the [book], so even those people who have had the pleasure of reading the book, they would want to see the new version. I have a copy of it and it looks great. It's actually drawing towards the younger crowd of readers that Cash Money is trying to target.
2. Game Time
Another reason you should consider getting it is to learn about the [pimp] game. The game is still alive and strong. I know [we're in] a different era, whereas [the book takes place] around the 40's and 50's, so it's an interesting read. Being a Black man in those times was a lot different than today.
3. Pen Hand Strong
I think another reason you should get the book is to appreciate my father's style of writing and to see his words. I think he had a very interesting and a very different way of explaining stories and telling stories. This is his style and I think people are going to appreciate that. He speaks the truth. It's a raw account of the truth in his life.
4. Listen Up
My fourth reason why people should go out and support the book is to keep [Iceberg Slim's] name alive. I'm hoping this book will keep his memories alive. I think it will keep his name out there for generations to follow and acquire the lessons he gives.
5. A Story To Tell
The story is very entertaining. You can actually kind of get into the life and experience it through his writing. It really is a deep read and really takes you there. It's a book that really takes you in. I really believe the younger generations are going to be entertained by it. A lot of people don't real anymore.
You Decide. Will you purchase Pimp: The Story Of My Life?
