After recent reports claiming R&B singer Faith Evans and music executive Todd Russaw were calling it quits after more than 10 years together, the separated couple now confirm the marriage speculation.
Speaking via a joint statement, Evans and Russaw have asked for privacy in their divorce proceedings.
"The dissolution of a marriage is a difficult time in anyone's life. However, after a great deal of thought and careful consideration, we have come to the decision to end our marriage together. We will both remain committed to parenting our children and will also continue to support each other's professional endeavors. We consider this a private matter and we will not make any further statement regarding the matter. We would appreciate the press respecting the privacy of our family, particularly our children, as we attempt to handle our situation with respect and dignity." (VIBE)
Details of the divorce began spreading online last week.
Faith -- who is married to record company exec Todd Russaw -- filed legal docs in L.A. County Superior Court, citing irreconcilable differences. Todd is also Faith's manager. The couple married in 1997 and has two minor children. But according to the divorce petition, the couple separated in December, 2005. The 2005 date is curious, because one of their children was born in 2007. Faith is asking for joint legal and sole physical custody. She wants Todd to have visitation rights. Faith also wants the judge to reject any claim of spousal support. (TMZ)
Around the mid-2000's, the former couple were arrested and placed into a drug treatment program.
In 2004, the couple was arrested in Atlanta and charged with possession of marijuana and cocaine. They both spent 13 (there's that number again) weeks in a drug treatment program. Evans was previously married to Biggie Smalls, who was gunned down in 1997. (Baltimore Sun)
Last fall, Evans made headlines after being issued three years probation for a DUI arrest last summer.
Authorities say Faith Evans has pleaded no contest to reckless driving after being arrested in August for investigation of drunken driving. Los Angeles city attorney spokesman Frank Mateljan says the Grammy-winning singer entered the plea Monday and was sentenced to three years of informal probation. Police say the 37-year-old Evans was arrested after being stopped at a DUI checkpoint in Marina del Rey. (ABC News)
