Atlantic Records' Diggy Simmons recently provided fans with an update for his long-awaited debut album and promised the project's first single will impact the hip-hop industry this summer.
While keeping details to a minimum, Diggy said his premiere track is also still in need of a title.
"I can't really say any detail on it yet," Diggy told us at Bamboozle. "But premeditating, I wanna keep it humble but it's gonna dodamage to the summer, that's what I'mma say." The teenaged MC was hush about the title of the lead single, adding that, "We're still thinking about the name of the album." The "Run's House" star did share that during the summer months, he plans to put the finishing touches on his debut, which he says is 70 to 80 percent done. He'll also be hitting the road as part of the Scream Tour starting July 13. (MTV)
Earlier this year, Diggy talked to SOHH about being the kin to rap moguls.
"So far, things haven't really blown up too, too, too big yet. I'm still building as an artist and putting in that groundwork. So right now things are still developing and that's a good thing. A lot of people I know like my uncle [Russell Simmons], my dad [Joseph "Reverend Run" Simmons], they really have a big legacy in hip-hop and music as a whole. But I've always been a very independent person and just coming into this game, I've just really set out to be myself, past my last name. Just straight up Diggy." (SOHH Guest Star)
He also explained his initiative for achieving success this year.
"For 2011, I am focused on dropping a few more mixtapes and then really get working on my debut album. Whatever comes with that hard work, I've set in my mind what I want and I know it will all come to me. I'm definitely focused right now and I have a plan for where I want to go from this point forth." (SOHH Guest Star)
Last March, Diggy opened up about making the XXL Freshmen '11 magazine cover.
"Being here means a lot. It's always been something I thought was real cool, as a new artist to be on, and it was something that I wanted to be on this year...I've still got people that don't even know that I rap and XXL is a big outlet; a real big magazine so more it'll just show people, and they'll be like, 'Yo that's Diggy he looks older.' Or, 'I didn't know he rapped.' So for those people and also for my fans and my supporters I hope they go out and get [the issue] and enjoy it." (XXL Mag)
