Guest Star: "I Don't Curse As Much As People Think I Do"

[As June marks six months at New York radio station Power 105.1, Angela Yee reflects on leaving Sirius Satellite Radio and her experiences as the station's morning show host.]
I think it's been great and I've been having a really good time doing "The Breakfast Club" show. I think it's been going really well with [co-hosts] Charlamagne Tha God and DJ Envy even outside of work. We hang out, do a lot of parties and go out to eat together. So it's fun to be here and we also get a lot more stuff to do here in New York as opposed to when I was on Satellite Radio where I was spread out across the country. Now I can host a party five nights a week if I wanted to.
It is different as far as trying not to slip up. I don't curse as much as people think I do. It hasn't been that bad, but I do have to watch what I say more than ever, because we are under a lot of scrutiny and a lot more things matter here. The advertisers matter and there are more complaints as opposed to Satellite Radio, where it was pretty much like, 'Who cares?' We could do what we want. It's definitely not like that over here.
Waking up is always difficult. Over at Sirius, my show was from 8 AM to 12 PM and over here it's 6 AM to 10 AM and we get here at 5 AM so we can get ready for the show. So I have to get up every morning at 3:45 AM. [It's] so rough waking up in the morning and trying to get out of bed. It's hard to go to bed before 11 or 12 at night. I don't get a lot of sleep. But I'm sometimes able to get naps and I'm able to drive now. Sirius had me on the subway.
As far as Charlamagne, I can only be responsible for myself and I tell people this all the time, because sometimes artists get mad about things that he says, but you really can't get mad at me. I can't control what any other person says. I am only responsible for what I have to say and I can't be held accountable for what Envy might say or what Charlamagne might say. Sometimes I might agree with them, sometimes I disagree with them. Sometimes people feel like, 'How come you're not riding with the team on this?' and I'm like, "Because I'm a different person." If I feel like I don't agree with something, then I will let you know that. I'm not gonna pretend I agree with something if I really don't.
But I'm not really too concerned about it. Some people have felt maybe I need security and all of that but nah, I've never felt any pressure at any location I've ever been to.
Prior to Power 105.1, Angela Yee hosted Lip Service with Angela Yee and Leah Rose and The Morning After with Angela Yee on Eminem's Sirius Satellite Radio station, Shade 45. She started her radio career at Sirius in 2005 as the co-host for "The Cipha Sounds Effect". When Cipha Sounds left the show in July 2008, Angela took over the hosting duties full time and the show was renamed the "Shade 45 Morning Show Starring Angela Yee". The name of the show was later changed to "The Morning After with Angela Yee." In December 2010, Yee left Sirius to begin "The Breakfast Club" alongside DJ Envy and Charlamagne Tha God.
