Young Money's Drake and Lil Wayne have confirmed their upcoming appearances at New York City radio station Hot 97's Summer Jam next month and what type of impact the annual event has on them.
Having performed at last year's Summer Jam, Drizzy promised to live up to the hype next month.
"One of the greatest events of the year is HOT 97's Summer Jam," Drake said. "When I was performing there, it was probably like one of the most overwhelming experiences of my life, but I can't wait to come back and kill it." (All Hip Hop)
Weezy discussed his impression of the showcase and how much emotion it evokes out of him.
"Hot 97's Summer Jam is different from any other concert...to me it's the Hip-Hop Woodstock," Lil Wayne said. "The electricity from the crowd is different, there's so many people out there. There were people as far as my eyes could see and honestly I got a little nervous, because I was a special guest so when I ran out there I didn't know it was that many people out there. Like Whoa!" Earlier this month, Hot 97 afternoon host Angie Martinez announced this year's line-up.
According to Martinez and other Hot 97 personnel taking part in the announcement, this year's main stage participants include: Fabolous, the resurgent Dipset crew, the buzzing (no pun intended) Wiz Khalifa, as well as Waka Flocka Flame, Rick Ross and G-Unit soldier Lloyd Banks (and friends). Among the bigger names, a back-to-back appearance by Drake, an appearance by Lil Wayne (and his daddy Birdman). Angie Martinez saved the "big, big" deal for last, announcing that Chris Brown is scheduled to appear as well. Martinez and the Hot 97 crew also hinted toward a couple of "surprises" in store, though without giving many details. (Birthplace Mag)
With tickets already on sale, the event will kick-off at the Meadowlands Stadium in New Jersey.
Set to go down on June 5, tickets, ranging from $45-$200, are currently on sale now at ticketmaster.com. A portion of the proceeds of Summer Jam 2011 benefit HOT 97's "Hip-Hop Has Heart Foundation" providing financial assistance to charities that benefit New York Tri-State communities. (XXL Mag)
