Southern rapper Webbie was reportedly arrested earlier this week on a drug possession and tampering with evidence charge following a performance in Kentucky.
Although the arrest occurred on Monday (April 4), details of what went down landed online today.
Webbie, whose real name is Webster Gradney Jr., was riding in a rental car that was stopped Monday south of Nashville. Authorities say the 25-year-old rapper from Baton Rouge, La., was found with $13,000 and 2 ounces of marijuana. There was no attorney listed for him at the jail and a message left with his booking agency, Celebrity Talent Promotions, was not immediately returned. (ABC News)
Upon being stopped, Webbie reportedly tossed out the marijuana from his vehicle.
The car Webbie was a passenger in was stopped going southbound on Interstate 65 on Monday. They were initially pulled over for speeding in a rented 2010 Nissan Altima. As the vehicle pulled over, the arresting sergeant saw what was believed to be marijuana thrown out of the window. Webbie was caught with over $13,000 in cash and 2 ounces of marijuana. (My Fox)
Additional charges were handed out to the other passengers.
Officials also found a loaded revolver and $916 when they searched 22-year-old Michael Abbott. The driver, 34-year-old Derric Watson was driving the car with a suspended drivers license. Tyrone Terrio, 34, was also in the car. After further investigation, officials discovered the four were on their way to Baton Rouge, LA after "Webbie's" performance in Louisville, KY the day before. Officials took all suspects to the Marshall County Jail. Gradney faces charges of Possession of Schedule VI with Intent to manufacture, sell or deliver and tampering with evidence with a $21,000 bond. (WBIR News)
Webbie is most known for invading the hip-hop scene around the mid-2000's.
In early 2005 the solo Webbie tracks "Gimme Dat" and "Bad B*tch" were appearing on mixtapes by Evil Empire and DJ Smallz, while in the background, Trill was working out a distribution deal with the Warner Bros.-associated label Atlantic. With the contracts signed, Webbie's full-length Savage Life hit the streets in June the same year. Savage Life 2 arrived in 2008, while the 2010 set All or Nothing featured Webbie alongside Lil Boosie and the rest of the Trill Entertainment family. (All Music)
