6: SunNY "N*ggas Jumped Off The Wave Cause The Flow Is Sea Sick"

SOHH teamed up with ReverbNation to select 20 unsigned rappers with "True Grit" --that rough, authentic swagger and determination to win at all costs. After weeks of deliberations and debates reviewing hundreds of worthy (and simply wack) contenders, the SOHH.com team countsdown the top 20 grittiest rappers on ReverbNation with a hustle so hard and rhymes so raw, they can't go unnoticed.

The SOHH True Grit Artist #6, "SUNNY",  ATLANTA, GEORGIA

Don't blink twice and don't even bother reaching for your Redbull. You're reading it correctly. This is the same SunNY who had a brief stint with fame during the mid-2000's after he was crowned as a BET 106 & Park's Freestyle Friday king and scooped up by Jermaine Dupri. Fast-forward past the overnight fame and dissolved deal with So So Def and here rests what True Grit is all about: a hungry emcee ready to claim a spot in the ever-changing rap game.

Armed with a one-two punch delivery similar to a seasoned rap veteran's, SunNY is back at it. With a New York background and current Atlanta, Georgia state of mind, he carries on his back two of the genre's biggest regions. Proclaiming himself as the "Voice of the People", SunNY makes his presence known, as he raps, "It's like my n*gga came home, seven year stretch/And he's already Twittin', said the game is his/Mixtape sh*ttin', said he's all out, got no chances of quittin'/On the corner he's pitchin'...." We won't spoil the rest of the rhyme for you, but listen to Sun's dark delivery coerces you to listen, and will eventually equate to his signature sound.

Already proven as a quick draw against all challengers, SunNY doesn't let you forget his freestyle roots on his "Be Frank" cut, spitting "They say life's a gamble/I'm a roller's paradise, hoping before I crap out I make it to paradise/I was born to win, for nine months, I prepared for life/One shot, full court, never get this chance twice..." Sun's wordplay remains resilient and his flow primed as if he has been in the rap game since '89.

In any form of weather, we're confident that the forecast will remain sunny for this future hip-hop king.
