G-Unit's 50 Cent has weighed in on the controversy surrounding Hot 97's Mister Cee in light of reporting claiming he was recently arrested on a public lewdness sex arrest.
Speaking on his close relationship with Cee, 50 offered his advice to the Hot 97 vet.
"It's only entertaining because he means that much to hip-hop culture and his association to it," 50 told Hot 97 personality Miss Info. "I recognize Mister Cee as the guy who introduced us to 50. So he means that much to the culture. A lot of the kids who hear the radio don't hear him the same way. I've played my albums for Mister Cee. Every album before it came out to see what he thought. When this type of stuff happens, you keep pushing...They can say what they want about it, how about if you say, 'I'm Rick James, b*tch.' [laughs] How about if you say I don't care? Who is to judge you other when there is an audience that's probably one of the strongest audiences if you look at Lady Gaga's career that says that that's fine. If you say it's not fine, then you're gonna get attacked. You're gonna write apology notes." (Celebrity Drama)
Hot 97's Miss Info explained her decision to avoid addressing Cee's situation.
Now in the case of Mr. Cee's "scandalous" arrest, it's more than just not caring enough about the story to include it. Obviously. So that's not the reason for the "silent treatment." But, aside from having this blog, I am also part of a company. And within that company, there is a family atmosphere. Do some of you have rules at your jobs? Or am I the only one who has to follow guidelines from higher ups? Sometimes guidelines are frustrating. But as long as I am not asked to cover up anything or misrepresent something, I understand when I need to wait for official statement or follow a company lead. In this particular case, I also don't mind, because I fully admit that I know and like Mr. Cee. So I want confirming details (which I think the Smoking Gun post has) and ideally a direct response. There is no direct response from Mr. Cee. But he knows what 50 and I discussed, and knows that I will be publishing it. (Miss Info TV)
While Info refuses to speak on Cee, Hot 97's Funkmaster Flex has publicly defended his friend/co-worker.
"New York City, I see everything moving and I see everybody moving," Flex said during his Monday (April 4) night Hot 97 broadcast. "We don't discriminate against no one or anybody. Whatever is your preference out here New York City, we do not discriminate. Because I need to say that before I say what I'm gonna say. Understand, the rumors that you hear about my man Mister Cee are untrue. OK? Let's address that first but we do not discriminate on what anybody wants to do...Now you listen to me right now so you understand clearly. New York City, I'm gonna say something today that I ain't never said. I know over there in that building, greasy talk huh, let me explain something to you right now. I'll lose a friendship today. I know everything that moves in that building...You want to throw a stone this morning? Is that what it is? ... All of y'all over there know exactly what I'm talking about. I will lose that friendship because I stand next to this logo! I stand next to this logo and nothing tears it down!" (Hot 97)
This week, a police report from Cee's arrest leaked online.
Lebrun, known as "Mister Cee" on Hot 97, was nabbed along with Lawrence Campbell, 20, according to a criminal complaint sworn by Officer Lindsay Agard. The cop reported spotting Campbell (who used the name "Brooke-Lynn Pinklady" on his just-deleted Facebook page) "manipulating" Lebrun's "exposed, naked, and erect penis" with his "mouth and lips in an up-and-down motion consistent with oral sex." The duo was collared March 30 in a car parked on Manhattan's far West Side, two blocks from the Holland Tunnel. (The Smoking Gun)
