16: O'Mega Red "Rhymes Like A Pistol, So You Know That I'm Packin' It"

SOHH teamed up with ReverbNation to select 20 unsigned rappers with "True Grit" --that rough, authentic swagger and determination to win at all costs. After weeks of deliberations and debates reviewing hundreds of worthy (and simply wack) contenders, the SOHH.com team countsdown the top 20 grittiest rappers on ReverbNation with a hustle so hard and rhymes so raw, they can't go unnoticed.

The SOHH True Grit Artist #16: "O'MEGA RED," BOSTON, MASSACHUSETTS"

He's "a problem, a motherf*cking problem" straight from Boston, Massachusetts and goes by the name O'Mega Red. Much like the eponymous X-Men villain, this rapper's rhymes are as fresh as his forever-present, signature shades.

We could rave about why O'Mega's punchy voice alone earns him a spot on this gritty list or we could just tell you that 25,600 MySpace fans and over 500 Facebook supporters have already co-signed his musical grind. Getting daily Reverb Nation plays from a fan demographic that ages from teenagers to your folks in rocking chairs, he's got all the grounds covered.

But don't take our word for it Blast O'Mega's "I'm A Problem" featuring Akon's producer Detail and you'll quickly figure out why he labels himself as such ("We blow a hundred thou, then we get it back/I see the Feds watching/But we up on that/We in their motherf*ckin' face, how you picture that/Oh yes I go, harder though/Bring it home, carnival").You'll also witness the young buck's ability to channel old-school flavor, as heard on the KRS-One-assisted "Hip-Hop Party" ("Lights, cameras, action/I be dipped out in the latest fashion/Don't mistaken my confidence for being arrogant/'Cause once I grab the microphone, you know that I'm attackin' it/Rhymes like a pistol, so you know that I'm packin' it").

From a hometown that saw the great Guru etch out a remarkable legacy to birthing hip-hop newcomers like Termanology and Statik Selektah, we're betting O'Mega Red will continue to hold it down for Beantown.
