15: Tranell Brown "You Need Me Like A White Blood Cell"

SOHH teamed up with ReverbNation to select 20 unsigned rappers with "True Grit" --that rough, authentic swagger and determination to win at all costs. After weeks of deliberations and debates reviewing hundreds of worthy (and simply wack) contenders, the SOHH.com team countsdown the top 20 grittiest rappers on ReverbNation with a hustle so hard and rhymes so raw, they can't go unnoticed.

River dance over, Willow Smith, because we've got the next P.Y.T. blazing out of Chicago, in the form of eight-year-old rhyme spitter Tranell Brown. Using her skills to sing and dance since she was only five, this triple-threat is a nightmare to any aspiring kid looking for a shot at fame. Not even old enough to get into a PG-13 movie, Tranell has already traveled the Western Hemisphere, gracing stages in Alaska, Florida and The Bahamas.

Even though schoolwork may limit the amount of shows she can fit into her schedule, her buzz has not stopped her 4,150 MySpace fans from checking for records that don't tater too far off of this youngin's spurs. With songs like "Education" where she raps, "Get your ed-ucation, and get a standing ovation/And if you need some help, then let me be your motivation/No I'm not a rookie, but I am to this industry...", it's evident she knows her place and isn't trying to burn anybody's rear ends with fake tales of Tiffany diamonds and Gucci purses.

But even more reason for us to co-sign Tranell is because she holds her own weight for a preteen. Pee her rhymes on "Why You Wanna Hate On Me", where she spits, "So fresh, fresh, as I is, my mama and my daddy only had one kid/What that mean, I'm spoiled as ever/Got my passport ready, I can go wherever/Got my all white kicks, fresh white tee -- Head butter but I'm smooth like whipped cream/Walk through the door, and they're all up on my team/All up in my face, better pop the Listerine/Breath so bad, make me have bad dreams." Her kiddie grit will stop a hater in his tracks before they think of disrespecting her twice.

Tranell may not be as cutthroat as some of the other Top 20 artists, but seeing what she's accomplished with less than ten years on Earth, this little rascal's grind can't be stopped.
