[SOHH features a new entertainment personality each week to speak on who they feel is the most underrated artist. After Kimora Lee Simmons gave Queen Latifah the title earlier this week, Cee-Lo Green now crowns Janelle Monae SOHH Underrated.]
To pick an artist that's underrated is hard. I'm not even gonna lie. But if I'm going to name someone for this moment, on more of a general scale for what's going on right now, I would have to go with Janelle Monae.
There's a lot of reasons why I feel like Janelle could be considered the most underrated right now. I think the biggest reason is because she kind of reminds me a little bit of myself. I love the fact that she embodies so much that the average mind of anyone, let alone a music consumer, would deviate from the course of an entire album.
Janelle doesn't make you feel like what you're listening to is too much to digest. It's not necessarily practical or tolerable. [Her music represents] a giant little pill. Because if you can't understand it, then you end up being defeated by it as opposed to being encouraged by it. And then you're eventually inspired. Nowadays we don't have enough time to sit down and really get into the fabric of [an artist].
Cee-Lo Green is a singer/rapper widely recognized for his contributions to rap crew Goodie Mob and duo Gnarls Barkley. His latest album, The Lady Killer, was released November 2010.
