Burgeoning rap mogul Rick Ross has opened up about his newly signed Maybach Music Group artist Wale and why the Roc Nation emcee could become the next Kanye West.
According to Ricky Rozay, Wale's ability to tell stories and create allusions places him in Yeezy's league.
"After spending months of my summer working with Kanye, I learned and seen so many different visions and ideas come to light. I was there for 'Flashing Lights', when it was actually titled another title that me and Kanye went back and forth about. And when I think about Wale, I think about Kanye. And the kind of rhymes Wale has been laying down the last few months, since we been in the studio, I'm pretty sure there's gonna be a lot of similarities as far as the pictures that he paints," the Bawse continued. "Of course, Kanye is one of the greats of our time, but I see that same potential in Wale." (MTV)
Last month, Wale confirmed speculation surrounding his deal with Maybach Music Group.
"the music wont change..the energy will! maybach music," Waletweeted Saturday (February 5).
"and ROCNATION still handles the business! ...shoutout to @richkleiman"
"I still run #boa with @thefuturemogul @treofucb and lil muhammad. And we still got @blackcobain @fattrel@mzsacha and TT" (Wale's Twitter)
In October 2009, Wale discussed his relationship with Jay-Z's Roc Nation.
"Roc Nation is a family so myself, Melanie Fiona, J. Cole -- it's a lot of these new young faces that you'll probably hear a lot more about in 2010 but myself, J. Cole and Melanie Fiona are carrying the flag as far as Roc Nation goes," Wale explained in an interview. "Some of us signed management [deals], some of us signed label [deals] through Columbia I believe. So it's a family, we talk all the time -- it's a family environment. This whole tour has been a family environment...I make what some people believe to be very good music -- and you can never let the hate stop you. I make good music and I make music for the soul." ("On The Air Idiots")
Ross and Wale are currently hard at work on their upcoming Self Made Maybach Music Group compilation album.
"The biggest compilation in recent time, man," Ross told radio host Bootleg Kev. "We going back to the era of the dope emcees, when Ruff Ryders was doing compilations and you just love the energy the dudes brought to the table...The new album from Maybach Music/Warner. It's gonna be big...Yeah, yeah, [Drake'll be on there], most definitely. Drake will be on the compilation and you know that's the homie so it's all love. He's embracing the movement and you know, it just feels good to rock out with your family. Shout-out to YMCMB." (Bootleg Kev)
