Producer Swizz Beatz's ex-wife/singer Mashonda opens up about her single life since separating with the hitmaker and why groupie boys and girls love her in the new issue of KING Magazine.
Within her cover feature, Mashonda also discusses the misconception of happiness.
"I was so loyal to everyone, and I totally forgot about me," she explained when discussing a tattoo on her hand reading 'loyalty'. "This is what it represents--it represents loyalty to self. Now I have to do things that I love to do, and I have to make myself happy, because I don't really agree when people say, 'I need a man 'cause I want to be happy,' or 'I'm not happy because I don't have a man.' That's not where it starts. Happiness starts from within, and that's in my focus." (KING)
When asked how she is handling "all the groupies," Mashonda went on to open up about her dating life.
"You mean the groupie boys? ... Yeah, you never know. I mean, they all love me...I show everybody love. But I don't like the word 'groupie'--it's so harsh. I don't feel there's anything wrong with one person admiring another person... I recently went on a date, and it was incredible." (KING)
Last summer, Mashonda talked about retaining her ex-husband's last name, Dean.
"I hate that when [Swizz and Alicia Keys are] doing something I always come up. I can't wait for the day when we're both in our own worlds. I'm a separate person and just want my own identity...I do [keep our name]. I kept my last name for my son's sake, until I remarry. There's no need to rush to change it... that just complicates things for my son. That would be so petty of me. The only thing that could change [my last name] is a really good man." (VIBE)
In December, Beatz discussed moving past Mashonda and marrying R&B star Alicia Keys.
Over the last two years, the Swizz Beatz brand has been juggling the complicated personal life of Kasseem Dean the person and the public scrutiny that comes with the more success he garners. He's dealt with rumors of an affair with songstress Alicia Keys; gone through a tough divorce with the mother of one of his three sons, R&B singer Mashonda Tifrere; married Keys; and, on October 14, 2010, welcomed his fourth child into the world, he and Keys's son, Egypt Daoud Dean. "I am just learning how to be a public person," Swizz says. "Like, You know what, I can't do that, because of this. All bets are off the table with bullsh*t... Dealing with my previous situation, which is the hardest situation I dealt with in my life, just dealing with people looking at you in a way... That's not what you're used to. That's not your everyday play. That's not your character. So to have to deal with something that people don't understand, don't care to understand, but they finally have their chance to have something on you." (XXL Mag)
