Grammy-winning rapper Lupe Fiasco has opened up on name checking United States President Barack Obama on his "Words I Never Said" record and explained his grievances with the government.
While not regretting taking a shot at Obama, Fiasco clarified his stance on the U.S. political system.
"Traitorous even, or treasonous. I was never on the bandwagon of Obama like that, because I'm not on the bandwagon for the American Government, the Federal Government. It's not all 100 percent evil, but it does a whole lot to not make you think that. The economical policies that are instigated really makes you think that the American government is a bunch of evil bastards. So just because you're black you're still representing that government, and when Obama came into office he enacted the same policies that we would critique other presidents for. The people who are on your economic team and determine the economic polices for the rest of us are the same people who ran those financial institutions, the same people who were corrupt and could possibly face criminal charges, but he's the head of your economic thing. Honestly, what the f*ck is that? That's what you call a WTF. So I think the critiques are poignant." (Gigwise)
Fiasco also reminded fans that Obama isn't the first Black president to be elected into office.
"I love Obama, and I love the fact that it's a black president of the United States of America, but he's not the first Black president. Robert Mugabe is a black president too so let's not get to talking about precedents being set. The fact that he's Black and American, that's different. But that it's anything special beyond that, that just because of that everything's going to be a utopia, then that's not true." (Gigwise)
Despite revealing that he didn't vote for Obama in the 2008 election on his "Words I Never Said" record, Fiasco explained his problems with the voting system.
"I haven't voted for anybody, for that matter," the rapper answered when asked if he voted for President Obama. "The American federal government, the American system, America's foreign policy is something I can't [support]. When you vote for that person, you vote for that." (BET)
Fiasco specifically name checks Obama on his new Lasers album single.
It's one thing to have an opinion about the President, but to write negative "raps lyrics" about the President is ludicrous. Lupe Fiasco, a Muslim faithful, wrote in one of his songs: "Limbaugh is a racist, Glenn Beck is a racist, Gaza Strip was getting burned, Obama didn't say sh-t, That's why I ain't vote for him, next one either..." Some people alleged Lupe wrote the rhymes to spark media attention for his upcoming album. (Celeb Promoter)
