Grammy-winning rapper Lil Wayne has decided to speed up his Tha Carter IV album release process by dropping the long-awaited LP earlier than expected.
According to Wayne, fans can expect to get their hands on the solo project by mid-May.
"Tha Carter IV is done," Wayne told MTV News. "All they need to do is tell Tez [manager Cortez Bryant] to stop sitting on it. Tez, stop sitting on Tha Carter IV and put the album out." Bryant, Weezy's longtime manager, was in attendance and provided the specific release date. "May 16, believe that," Wayne said. "It can come out tomorrow 'cause I'm so finished ... Tha Carter IV will be dropping May 16. If you're not doing anything, do me," he added. (MTV)
The album was initially slated for release on May 24th.
Get ready to hear a whole lot of Young Money Cash Money Billionaires this summer. YMCMB is readying releases from Wayne, Bow Wow, Lil Twist, G Malone & Brisco, DJ Khaled, Birdman & Jay Sean, and rounding it all out, Drake. Apparently Birdman has officially handed in tentative dates for releases to the CEO of Blu Division Music. Interesting enough the list is titled "YMCMB A Hot Summer." If this holds true this is going to be the hottest summer under the sun! May 24: Lil Wayne. June 7: Bow Wow. June 14: G Malone & Brisco. June 21: Lil Twist. June 28: DJ Khaled. July 5: Birdman & Jay Sean. September 13: Drake. (The Source)
Producer Boi-1da revealed that Wayne traveled to New York City to record Carter IV music in December.
"We were actually just up in New York working, Lil Wayne was in there, too. I gave him stuff for Tha Carter IV. Man, 2011 is going to be a good year for music. Drake's in tip top shape and what's amazed me is that lyrically he's gotten better. He was already an outstanding lyricist but now I'm just in anticipation of what people are going to think when they hear his new music...I know a lot of people had criticized him for singing, but I think he's just coming back to show people why they fell in love with him, like 'did you forget about me?.' And it's really coming out in his raps. It's something I can't even really explain it." (VIBE)
In addition to being featured on Carter IV, Young Money's Nicki Minaj recently described the album's superior production.
"Of course, if Wayne would have me, yes," Minaj told Tim Westwood when asked if she will appear on Tha Carter IV. "I think that's going to be very anticipated. I think it's already being anticipated. His beat selection alone is going to friggin' kill. I've already heard a couple of the beats, in fact, the other day, I went to tell this producer, 'Yo, hold that beat for me.' And he said, Wayne already took it. And it hurt my heart, I was like, 'Errr'. But yeah, he's snatching them up. He's ready. I cannot wait. I'm just, I'm proud of him. I'm super proud of him." Tha Carter IV is slated to drop Tuesday, May 16th.
