[As Valentine's Day approaches, for this week only SOHH will highlight artists so in love with the man in the mirror that they decided to speak on why they feel they are unappreciated. After AZ gave himself the title yesterday, Cassidy now crowns himself SOHH Underrated.]
I feel like I'm the most underrated rapper in hip-hop. I know I do have a certain level of success, but I don't feel like I get the respect from the world. I don't feel like I get that respect from the mass amounts of people out there like I should.
I don't feel like I get as much radio play as I should. I don't feel as though my music videos get played as much as they should. I don't feel like I sell as many albums as I should. I don't feel like I'm getting the right amount of endorsement deals and reality shows and TV shows and movies that I should be getting. I don't feel like I've been branching off of my career as I should.
I just don't feel as though I'm at the level of success that I should be at. That's because people don't fully understand me and the style and direction that I'm going in. All it's going to take from me is to keep grinding, keep doing what I'm doing and just staying consistent. I can't be floating out of the pocket like I did in the past.
I was about to take it to the next level plenty of times before but then things came up in my life and they delayed me. But now I feel all I have to do is stay consistent and show people what I'm capable of and the world is going to eventually realize it. I'm gonna get the success because it's going to eventually come, but I feel like [people underrate] my wordplay, the metaphors, the styles that I created, the punchlines I brought to the table. It's the whole direction that I go with my music that influenced a lot of other big name rappers and small name rappers.
Even with my battle rapping, that whole little lane was created not just through me, but mainly through artists like me. Before most battle rappers got their success, that's what I was doing and that was the direction that I was going in. I'm still undefeated. I'm like the Floyd Mayweather, Jr. with it. So I feel like I should get more credit than I do and I feel there's a certain amount of people in the world that know what I do but I'm just talking about the masses. The majority of people don't really know what I'm capable of.
Cassidy is a renowned rapper who got his start in the hip-hop scene as a battle emcee who later went on to release multiple solo albums and eventually branched out into acting in films. His latest album, C.A.S.H., was released in November 2010.
