Rappers Wiz Khalifa and Consequence have heightened the ante for tomorrow's NFL AFC (American Football Conference) Championship match-up between the Pittsburgh Steelers and New York Jets with their own anthems.
Wiz, who is scheduled to perform his "Black & Yellow" Pittsburgh hit at the game, spoke on his anticipation to uplift Steelers fans.
"It's gonna be crazy man," Wiz promised. "It's gonna be really monumental to see everyone out there. Knowing where I grew up and everyone rockin' in the same place. This is the closest to being a Steeler that I'm gonna get. I've always had that Pittsburgh pride. I just wanted to let people know where I'm from and represent any way I can and what better way than through our colors. I took that hometown pride and put it in a song." (XXL Mag)
The Cons has satisfied eager Jets fans' anthem needs with the new release of his song, "J.E.T.S. (Put Your Arms Out).
Consequence, 34, released his new song, "J.E.T.S. (Put Your Arms Out)" on Wednesday and it has already become a popular anthem of Jets fans, even getting air time on New York radio stations. "We're going to win! It's their time," said the confident rapper, whose real name is Dexter Mills. He predicted a 20-14 Jets win. "I hope it inspires them. I hope Mark Sanchez got it on pump when he's leaving the locker room, and Braylon Edwards and the whole team for that matter. New York really feeds off that kind of energy I hope the team takes it and embraces it as well." (New York Daily News)
Wiz's "Black & Yellow" hit has already struck a cord with New York radio station deejays whom have vouched not to play the anthem heading into Sunday's match-up.
It looks like Snoop Dogg isn't the only fan of Wiz Khalifa's music. The upstart rapper has been tapped by the NFL's Pittsburgh Steelers to perform his breakout hit "Black and Yellow" before the team's AFC championship game against the New York Jets on Sunday. (Meanwhile, in New York, DJs like Funkmaster Flex have banned "Black and Yellow" for the weekend.) (MTV)
Since its release last year, "Black & Yellow" has continued to climb up the Bllboard Hot 100 chart.
"I'm definitely excited about 'Black and Yellow' reaching [no.] 14 on the charts," Wiz said in an interview. "Just even that is just great. When I put it out, I was thinking it's gonna be more of like a set-up record, but now that it's going up, hopefully it reaches its full potential. Wherever that is, or wherever that lands it, we'll see it there...The response to 'Black and Yellow' made me wanna work with [production duo] Stargate more, or just experience more with getting in the studio with different producers and trying to come up with something from scratch how we did."
