Iconic singer/pianist Elton John has vouched his support for the often-criticized hip-hop genre, and praised controversial artists Kanye West and Eminem for their creativity.
The 63-year-old musician is a firm believer in respecting all forms of music.
"I grew to love R&B and Motown and all Black music, gospel music," John revealed in an interview. "I never dismiss any form of music. I listen to everything. I'm on the new Kanye West record, for example. It's a genius record. -- People who mock rap, and say, 'I don't like it,' they should go check out Kanye in the studio rapping. Or Eminem when he's in the studio. It's a phenomenon. Don't knock it until you've seen it. It may not be your cup of tea, but don't ridicule . I find that so many of my peers of my age don't listen to anything new. I love the new." (Teen Music)
Oscar-winning actress Gwyneth Paltrow recently admitted to being a fan of Nicki Minaj's Pink Friday debut and R&B superstar Beyonce.
"I listen to everything," Paltrow said in an interview. "I probably have the most schizophranic [sic] iPod. My biggest obsession right now is the Nicki Minaj album. She's a genius. I'm also obsessed with Kanye's album. I really like Dierks Bentley. He has a bluegrass record that I really love...I watched Beyonce a ton because I think she's the best live performer happening right now. She has this amazing confidence..." (Stumble Upon)
In January 2010, Elton John voiced his support for Eminem during the rapper's struggle with drug addiction.
"I've been helping Eminem over the last 18 months and he's doing brilliantly," John says, reports the British Press Association. Speaking to BBC Radio 5 in the U.K. on Saturday, Sir Elton, 62, who has freely spoken about his own past issues with substance abuse, said: "I'm there if people want my help. If people ask for help you tell them where to go but there's no point advising people if they don't want to do it." (PEOPLE)
