R&B singer Chris Brown appeared in a California courtroom yesterday (January 28) to request a restraining order demanding his distance from ex-girlfriend Rihanna to be removed.

According to reports, the request had nothing to do with Brown wanting to rekindle his past flame with the singer.

The singer, along with his legal ace attorney Mark Geragos arrived to the courthouse in downtown Los Angeles and appeared calm and collected before the judge. Geragos told Judge Patricia Schnegg that his client has completed his 52 week domestic violence counseling and requested she remove the existing restraining order against Brown. "It makes it difficult at award shows and such," Geragos said. Judge Schnegg did not immediately grant his request but did suggest a modification with the approval of Rihanna's attorney, David Etra. Despite grabbing a hold of Rihanna's attorney, Etra said he needed to speak with his client before making any modification.

Before the request can be granted, Rihanna's attorney must approve of the modification from a "stay away" order to a "do not annoy." Brown is scheduled to remain on probation until 2014. Despite his three nominations, the 21-year-old star's rep recently told the APthat he was not currently scheduled to attend next month's Grammy Awards. (Rap-Up)

Last December, Brown completed a court-ordered domestic violence course.

"i have enough self respect and decency to be proud of accomplishing this DV class.. Boyz run from there mistakes.. Men learn from them!!!thx," Brown tweeted Tuesday. (Chris Brown's Twitter)

Brown received his punishment in a Los Angeles court room in 2009.

The singer was sentenced to a domestic violence course in August 2009 after he reached a plea deal with Beverly Hills prosecutors in the wake of his conviction on charges of assault against then girlfriend Rihanna. Brown was required to take the once-a-week class for one year. The "Deuces" star was also sentenced to 180 days of community labor, placed on five years probation and issued a stay-away order from Rihanna. (MTV)
