The Neptunes' Pharrell Williams has announced plans to put together a new collaboration project alongside co-producer Chad Hugo heading into 2011.
While declining to give a release date, Pharrell said the album is currently in the works.
"This new Neptunes record we're working on right now is vicious," he says excitedly. "It's definitely harder - it totally demands sweat." So how different is making a Neptunes album compared to N*E*R*D's recent effort? "Music is music," he says. "But with N*E*R*D we put more of our personality into it, that's just us being us, and with Neptunes we produce for a lot of people so we allow space for their personalities, for them to be themselves and our music sort of commandeers the direction a bit." He won't give a release date - "But just know, I'm in here right now," he says, before loud beats begin bouncing down the line. "Yeahhhh," shouts Williams, "sweat time!" (The Herald Sun)
The project will be the follow-up to 2003's Neptunes Present...Clones.
Their debut album, Neptunes Present... Clones (2003), confirmed their across-the-board popularity, topping Billboard's album chart and moving roughly 250,000 units during its first week. Amid all of this success, they continued to churn out hits, most notably alongside Justin Timberlake ("Rock Your Body") and Snoop Dogg ("Beautiful") as well as for their longtime standbys (Jay-Z's "Excuse Me Miss") and even themselves (Pharrell's "Frontin'"). Last November, Pharrell dropped his N.E.R.D. compilation LP, Nothing.
Hip-hop trio N.E.R.D.'s Nothing finally debuted over the past week and opened at No. 21. With seven days under foot, Pharrell's crew managed to secure 19,800 sold records. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
Outside of his group projects, Pharrell is reportedly working in the studio with rapper Asher Roth.
"Just finished with Pharrell for 12 days. We were in Miami just dickin' around, just being a bunch of a**holes and making some really dope fun music for the new album," Ash revealed in a March 2010 interview. "I'm not going to release the title yet, just 'cause you know I want people to take in Seared Foie Gras With Quince And Cranberry for a couple months before I get them excited about the album. But, you know, working with Pharrell and Chad was a blast. I mean genuinely good, good people who are doing it for the right reasons." (XXL Magazine)
