Producer Swizz Beatz opens up about moving beyond his previous failed marriage to R&B singer Mashonda and being cautious about his public image in the December/January XXL Magazine.

Based off an excerpt from his feature, Swizz admits his publicized divorce from Mashonda was one of life's biggest hurdles.

Over the last two years, the Swizz Beatz brand has been juggling the complicated personal life of Kasseem Dean the person and the public scrutiny that comes with the more success he garners. He's dealt with rumors of an affair with songstress Alicia Keys; gone through a tough divorce with the mother of one of his three sons, R&B singer Mashonda Tifrere; married Keys; and, on October 14, 2010, welcomed his fourth child into the world, he and Keys's son, Egypt Daoud Dean. "I am just learning how to be a public person," Swizz says. "Like, You know what, I can't do that, because of this. All bets are off the table with bullsh*t... Dealing with my previous situation, which is the hardest situation I dealt with in my life, just dealing with people looking at you in a way... That's not what you're used to. That's not your everyday play. That's not your character. So to have to deal with something that people don't understand, don't care to understand, but they finally have their chance to have something on you." (XXL Mag)

Last fall, Mashonda said Keys wanted their son to view the singer as his new mother.

"I sent her an e-mail and asked her to please respect what I am to him and it's not right for her to think that is okay. She never replied. She doesn't reply to me. She has never given me that respect...It is so unfair to the child. I have been in contact with the little girl's mother (the woman in England who has Swizz's baby). She's a young girl. She's a spiritual girl. She apologized to me... I don't even judge her. I can't. She's totally different than the other one. This other one knew. Alicia knew about me 100 percent. Swizz introduced me at prior events. They were signed to the same record company. She knew. And I e-mailed her and asked her to stop doing what she was doing and she disregarded me. Just like she disregarded me when I asked her to not have my son thinking it was okay to call her 'Umi'. You're not his 'Umi'. You just met my son...'Umi' means 'mommy' in Arabic. I'm like no. And then after I spoke to the lady in London, she told me that she tried to get her daughter to call her 'Umi' as well...Like, if you want to be a stepmother, that's great. Be a stepmother. But don't think that it's okay to make a kid call you 'Umi' or 'mommy.'" (Rhymes With Snitch)

Over the summer, Mashonda said she would maintain her married name, Dean, until she felt compelled to change it.

"I hate that when [Swizz and Alicia Keys are] doing something I always come up. I can't wait for the day when we're both in our own worlds. I'm a separate person and just want my own identity...I do [keep our name]. I kept my last name for my son's sake, until I remarry. There's no need to rush to change it... that just complicates things for my son. That would be so petty of me. The only thing that could change [my last name] is a really good man." (VIBE)

Since their mid-summer nuptials, Beatz has divulged details on his emotions for Keys.

"It's just a feeling," Swizz said about falling in love with Keys. "Love is a word that's powerful but the feeling is even stronger...To identify that feeling is something that's amazing because it doesn't only come from your partner. It comes from your love for music, your love for people, your love for a lot of things, and I think that once you identify the feeling of love, you'll be a better person. I'm a better man. I think that having love in your life, it just has that effect. Because then you spread love. You can't enjoy love without spreading love. I just think that it all falls in the pocket." (MTV)
