Cash Money Records co-founder Baby has announced plans to hit the studio with Lil Wayne to work on the follow-up to their 2006 album, Like Father Like Son.
According to "Birdman," the project will be released next summer.
Baby is looking forward to working with Wayne on a sequel to Like Father, Like Son, the collaborative album that the mentor and protégé released in 2006. "We're planning on putting that out Father's Day weekend," he says. So what should fans expect to hear next June? "Just me and Wayne being us, the father-son thing. [We're] bringing that Cash Money/Young Money sound, that traditional hard-body rap, the music that we do together -- that gangsta s--, straight up." (Entertainment Weekly)
Baby also believes once Wayne is released from jail this week, he will quickly return to the studio.
Tha Carter IV probably won't arrive until the first quarter of 2011, but no release date has been set. Wayne won't waste any time getting back to the studio upon his release. "I think after seeing the family, popping a few bottles, it's back to basics," said the Cash Money chief. "Family first, that's what we believe in, that's what we're loyal to. After that, I think the same day he comes home, he's going to go straight to the studio." (Rap-Up)
A couple years ago, Baby announced plans to put out a Like Father, Like Son movie.
"Me and Wayne just finished this movie, Like Father, Like Son, that's coming out in June and the album coming out at the same time," Baby said in an interview. "That's what we do. Just me being myself. I just wanted to, it's something we wanted to fund. It's ours...So, it's really what it is, like father, like son," Baby added. "Normal day growing up in New Orleans, you know. Hood rich." (Power 105.1)
Their 2006 LP has reportedly sold over 700,000 copies since being released four years ago.
According to the Cash Money Records website and an aggressive street campaign in Houston, the album was initially scheduled for release on September 26, 2006 but delays pushed the release back to October 31, 2006. Like Father, Like Son debuted at #3 on the Billboard 200 with 176,000 copies sold. As of July 11, 2007, it has sold 761,958 copies in the US. (Wikipedia)
