Former Roc-A-Fella artist Young Chris has officially inked a new record deal with hitmaker Rico Love's Universal Motown imprint, Division 1.
Rico broke the news of the signing via video announcement on Monday (October 11).
"What up, it's Rico Love, Mr. Turn The Lights On, we here, Young Chris photo shoot," Love said in a video. "We wanted to make this formal announcement announcing that Division 1 has done a joint venture, label deal, with Universal Motown and the first act off the label is going to be Young Chris aka Chris Ries. I'm happy that we finally closed the situation. I'm a big fan of Chris, for years, and I'm going to tell a quick story. My first time meeting Jay-Z, I was performing with Usher on The Truth Tour, 2004, and the first thing I said to Jay when I met him backstage was, 'I love Young Chris. I'm a fan of Young Chris.' And he said, 'Yo, that's my little man. He's got a bright future.' ... Now it's Young Chris aka Christopher Ries, the re-introduction, coming soon. This is only the beginning..." Young Chris also confirmed his new label association.
"He reached out and kept it 100 ever since," Chris said in an interview. "He's a man of his word. Everything he said he was going to do, he did. He told me to just give him a little time -- that's why we're here today man, out in Miami. We doing a photo shoot, video tonight, back to the studio and we hitting the town." (Official Division 1)
Earlier this year, Chris said Jay-Z encouraged him to record a solo LP.
"It's Now Or Never man, that's the title of my new album," Chris revealed in a February 2010 interview. "One half of the Young Gunz, Young C. Nah, [Neef] ain't quit, he ain't quit, never that. Hov came to me with the idea, when we were working on [2005's] Brothers From Another. He said after this one, do your solo joint so after we finished Brothers From Another, I've basically been working on it." (Choke No Joke)
Chris recently spoke on the influence his former boss had on his career.
"The influence he had on me is substantial," Chris said in an interview. "That man is just the best that ever did it. He's just inspiration and motivation just to see how he works today. The wealth he at, just lets me know I have to stay at it. It's a grind, got a long way to go man. That man's a multi-millionaire and still goes in... [He'll continue rapping] 'til he drop. Jay got it man, he can do whatever he want man. He runs this town. He's still got it. He's still got it man, that's my boy. You know what it is, he's the best at it. So the expectations are set high, sometimes you're set up for failure 'cause people are expecting the best. Then they compare it to the old Jay...He's seen more, he's experienced culture. People stuck in time 'cause they don't go nowhere." (Rugah TV)
