R&B singer Rihanna recently opened up about her admiration toward Drake and knocking out studio time with the Young Money super star.
Speaking about their "What's My Name" remix, Rihanna justified teaming up with Drizzy.
"Drake is the hottest rapper out right now," Rihanna says, "and we've always been trying to work together. He's the only person I thought could really understand the melody of the song, and the minute he heard it he said, 'I know exactly what I'm going to do. I love it.' And he did it like three days later." Much of the actual recording was done while Rihanna was on the road for her Last Girl on Earth tour, which kicked off in April in Europe and wrapped in August in the United States. Earlier this month, Rihanna confirmed speculation about reuniting with her rumored ex-boyfriend.
Just last month, Drake revealed that he and Rihanna had linked up for a song on her upcoming album Loud. Now the pop starlet is providing a few more details about the highly-anticipated collabo. "Drake is such a cool guy, man. He's like one of my great friends," RiRi told BBC Radio 1Xtra's Max in a recent interview. "We actually just did a song together that's gonna be on the album. The second single, we did a version with him, and who knows, we may shoot a video for it." (Rap-Up)
Drake previously stirred speculation of their collaboration being in the works.
"I just did this great song with Rihanna so I hope we get to shoot a video for that too," Drake revealed in a recent interview. "I'm really excited about that song...I don't know if I'm supposed to talk about that actually." (MTV)
In June, Drake explained referencing their past romantic relationship on his Thank Me Later debut.
And on "Fireworks" there's a verse about Rihanna, who asked him last year to write a song for her new album; the two soon began seeing each other regularly, though they never publicly confirmed their brief relationship. "I was a pawn," Drake said. The song he wrote for her never got released. "You know what she was doing to me? She was doing exactly what I've done to so many women throughout my life, which is show them quality time, then disappear," he said. "I was like, wow, this feels terrible." (New York Times)
