R&B singer Monica has decided to sacrifice her ability to connect directly with fans by announcing her discontinuation of Twitter.

Monica said the termination of her Twitter account was a result of malicious people.

"Hey there. I want to thank all of u who have been so supportive of myself & family for so many years. I hate to say this But I will no longer be on twitter. I love the fact that I am able to speak to my REAL supporters but it has also become a way for people to do malicious things, when my sole intent was to spread positivity. I love u guys dearly and will find ways to stay in touch. I have dear Friends on twitter & team Monica will make sure u have all information on dates etc...Again I love u guys but this is better for the protection of my children, my family, fiancé and fans. Too much is being said that I didn't say and for a person that believes so strongly in being 100 at ALL times. I just can't do it. I will see all of u guys very soon. I LOVE U ...Take care." Prior to re-joining earlier this year, Chris Brown had previously deleted his Twitter account.

Chris Brown is the latest artist to abandon the service completely, following the precedent set by Miley Cyrus and Lil Wayne. Brown's exit came after a week's worth of Twitter-based ranting about stores not stocking his new album Graffiti. Only a few hours after that revelation, Brown issued his finally tweet: "I wanna thank my fans for all the support," he wrote. "Goodbye!" The old address for his Twitter page now leads to the dreaded "Sorry, that page does not exist!" screen. (MTV)

Over the weekend, Monica used Twitter to show off her new engagement ring.

Monica tweeted pictures of an engagement ring this weekend. She and the Los Angeles Lakers shooting guard Shannon Brown, who also appeared in her "Love All Over Me" video, began dating earlier this year. "We realize people will have their opinions. That's the way of the world. But we know who we are&who's we are.We pray 2 an awesome God 2gether," Monica tweeted. (Michigan Live)

Reports claim that Brown approached Monica about the engagement.

The 25-year-old L.A. Laker popped the question to the Grammy-winning songstress, 29. "I'm truly ecstatic," Mo told Rap-Up.com. The couple has been dating since filming the video for "Love All Over Me" in June. (Rap-Up)
