G.O.O.D. Music's Kid Cudi has stated that he is beginning to lose his passion for rhyming, and wants to focus on penning hooks as opposed to rap verses.
According to Cudder, he no longer gains satisfaction from writing rap lyrics.
"I don't get any fulfillment out of [rapping] anymore," Cudi revealed in an interview. "Like, I really don't get any fulfillment out of writing a 16 [bars]. That's why you don't really hear me on Kanye [West's] joints like that. It's for two reasons. I'm just not going to be rapping on Ye records and getting bodied all the time and number two, I'm just not passionate about it. I'm more passionate when he's like, 'Yo Cudi, come up with a hook or something,' because he asks me to put verses down and sh*t and I'll try to procrastinate or disappear. I just get more fulfillment out of singing now and learning the guitar. That's like my newfound love. I just never thought I could play an instrument and surprised myself. It's been two and a half months I've been playing. I'm already starting my next album, it's a rock album." (MTV)
Cudi's sophomore album, Man on the Moon 2, is set for a November release and contains multiple guest features.
1. Scott Mescudi VS the World feat. Cee-LO 2. REVOFEV 3. Don't Play This Song feat. Mary J. Blige 4. We Aite (Wake Your Mind Up) 5. Marijuana 6. Mojo So Dope 7. Ashin' Kusher 8. Erase Me feat. Kanye West 9. Wild'n Cuz Im Young 10. The Mood 11. MANIAC feat. Cage & St. Vincent 12. Mr. Rager 13. These Worries feat. Mary J. Blige 14. The End feat. GLC, Chip Tha Ripper & Nicole Wray 15. All Along 16. GHOST! 17. Trapped In My Mind (Man on the Moon 2)
Recently, GLC spoke with SOHH about his guest-appearance on the Moon.
"Cudi and I, we've been cool since he came aboard the whole G.O.O.D. Music regime," GLC said. "He came with a record, it was produced by the Blended Babies, that's a group of producers out of Chicago and it has Nicole Wray on the hook, featuring Chip Tha Ripper out of Cleveland and me, GLC, out of the windy city streets of Chicago. And the name of the record is called 'The End,' and I guarantee when you hear it, you're gonna be like, 'D*mn, please don't ever let this end.'" (SOHH)
Recently, Cudder said his sophomore LP was originally set to be a collaboration project.
"I wanted this album to be fun, but the dark sh*t was my life at that time [when I made 'Erase Me.'] I was fighting not to write that sh*t. It got frustrating writing a collab album--I just lost interest, and it became more of a task, rather than something I wanted to do. That's not how it's supposed to feel. The day it becomes work, you need to retire...'Erase Me' was fun as f*ck to make, but it's just different. It was me f*cking around, just to show people I can do whatever. That's my main goal now, just to show people no matter what I do, I'm going to make sh*t that's in good taste. Might not be your cup of tea, but it's going to be authentic, it's not going to be forced. When I made ['Erase Me'], I was like, 'This beat sounds fresh as h*ll, I want to do some rock sh*t'--and I did it. I came up with that sh*t in 30 minutes. I was feeling it, and then I was like, 'This sh*t ain't Cudder, it's just me f*cking around, let me stop bullsh*tting." (Complex)
Man on the Moon 2 is scheduled to drop Tuesday, November 9th.
