Eminem and Mariah Carey's short-lived relationship and eventual dispute reportedly began as a result of the singer being cast to play Slim Shady's mother in 2002's semi-biopic, 8 Mile.

According to Carey's ex-manager Damion "Damizza" Young, Em sought to cast the singer in his big screen acting debut.

Apparently, while Shady was casting for his movie, 8 Mile, he asked Mariah to be a part of the movie. Now, Mariah being the wonderful diva that she is, thought she was going to get the role of Alex, Rabbit's girlfriend. As we all know, that part went to the late, great Brittany Murphy. As it turns out, she was really sought to be cast for the part of Rabbit's mother, Stephanie Smith, which was landed by Kim Basinger. Instead of the casting propelling the two apart, they grew closer together and formed a relationship. Of course, they have since split, but the feud still remains. (Opposing Views)

Young also said he warned the former couple against advancing their relationship to a romantic level.

"Em even violated his probation to be with Mariah in New York before their relationship blew into an epic, 'he said, she said.'" Epic isn't the word as these two have been taking shots at each other in songs, videos, and interviews on a fairly consistent basis ever since their relationship, fling, phase, or whatever it was came to an end. As for the nearly decade long back-and-forth, Young indicated all of it could've been avoided had the duo listened to him from the start. "I warned them both, but they didn't listen," he told In Touch. "The guy [Eminem] eats pop stars for a living. Say one thing he doesn't like, he's gonna attack." (Dr. Jays)

In summer 2009, Em dropped his hard-hitting "The Warning" which detailed their relationship and taunted Carey's husband, Nick Cannon.

"Only reason I dissed you in the first place is because you denied seeing me and now I'm pissed off," Em says on the song's intro. "Sit back homie, relax, in fact grab a six pack, kick back while I kick facts/Yeah Dre sick track, perfect way to get back/Wanna hear something with wack/I got the same exact tat that's on Nick's back/I'm 'Obsessed' now/Oh geesh, that's supposed to be me in the video with the goatee, wow, Mariah, didn't expect it to go balls out/B*tch shut the f*ck up before I put all the phone calls out you made to my house when you was Wildin' Out before Nick/When you was on my d*ck/And give you something to smile about/How many times you fly to my house just on account/Better shut your lying mouth if you don't want Nick finding out/You probably think since it's been so long that if I had something on you, I woulda did it by now/Oh on the contrary Mary Poppins/I'm mixing our studio session down and sending it to mastering to make it loud/Enough dirt on you to murder you/This is what the f*ck I do/Mariah, it ever occur to you that I still have pictures/However you prefer to do and that goes for Nick too/F*ggot, you think I'm scurred of you/You gonna ruin my career, you better get one/Like I'ma sit and fight with you over some sl*t b*tch c*nt that made me put up with her psycho a** over six months/And only spread her legs to let me hit once/Yeah, whatcha gonna say, I'm lucky?/Tell the public that I was so ugly that you f*cking had to be drunk to f*ck me..." ("The Warning")

A few months ago, Em said he no longer had an interest in beefing with Carey.

"You know what? I got to be honest. I really don't want to talk about her anymore only just because it's kind of like the last thing I said about her was on 'Cold Wind Blows.' I made the comment, ['Take a look at Mariah next time I inspire you to write a song.'], I don't want to keep beating a dead horse. I'm not even going to comment about it. I'm done with that whole situation. I said what I had to say. I'm done." (VIBE)
