News: Waka Flocka Flame Breaks Down Short-Lived Gucci Mane Feud
Monday, Sep 20, 2010 11:10AM
Southern rapper Waka Flocka Flame has explained his recent short-lived feud with Gucci Mane and blamed media for over-hyping the situation.
According to Waka, they are both still working together.
"Nothin' happened! The media took a brotherly argument [and turned it in] to a separation. We was getting so far apart from each other, we was like, 'Hold up, boy.' But, nah, there wasn't no argument. Just brotherly sh*t, like you argue with your brother, or friend like, 'Man, what the f*ck? Yeah, aight, sh*t.' That's normal human being sh*t. But they took it like, 'Oh, they rappers, aye, they broke up.' There's nothing wrong. We working on the Brick Squad [album] and all that. We turnin' it up." (XXL Mag)
Last month, Gucci Mane stumped a radio host by walking out of a live interview when asked about Waka.
"This is what happened," radio host A Plus told listeners. "We're about 30 seconds from going back on the air and what we do behind the scenes, we prep our interviews and let them know, 'Hey this is what we're gonna go over' and I told him what we were going to talk about. One of those topics was Waka Flocka -- mind you people, this is stuff off the air and I asked Gucci if it was cool to talk about it and his immediate manager pulls him out the studio. Mind you, this is ten seconds before we go back on the air. That's unprofessional. You don't yank anybody off the air like that when we're about to go on the air...That's your hero people, that's your guy. I don't know, I don't know how to feel...I'm the nice guy, you stepped on a nice guy, Gucci. Come on man, I don't understand that." (Rap Radar)
Despite publicly saying he no longer speaks with Gucci in a recent interview, Waka claims business differences had not pushed them to the point of beefing.
"I don't think it's no split. We couldn't meet each other on a business level -- or a personal level," Flocka told radio host DJ Drama. "Whatever the level is, I don't know. I'm going this way and [he's] going that way and we both killin' these folk. That's just what it is...Ain't no drama. Don't ever think it's just like, 'Ey, let's get [him]' ... Don't ever think I'm [going] to ride on him with another person. Let's make that super clear." (Hot 107.9)
In Flocka's interview with VIBE, the rapper publicly announced his disassociation with rappers Gucci and Nicki Minaj after they terminated his mother as their manager.
"I can say when you start getting hot, there are a lot of people that get in your ear. I call that the devil. It'll turn you against the people that helped you. They must have just felt like they needed a change. Maybe they felt like other people can take their career somewhere else. I don't know. Just like LeBron [James] going to the Heat. I ain't mad, though, or got problems with anybody. Moms is good; her bills are paid...Yeah, [it affected myrelationship with Gucci] all the way. All the way. I ain't got beef or anything but it has changed. We don't talk anymore. Nicki is still my homey, though. I got her number and can call her whenever. My momma ain't got no problems with her or anything either. Let's make that clear." (VIBE)
