New York rap veteran Talib Kweli has announced the title of his upcoming new solo album and revealed some of the producers that have laced tracks on the LP.
Kweli tweeted his announcement on Monday (September 20).
"Putting the finishing touches on my new album Gutter Rainbows, available sooner than you think (MPhazes, EJones, S1, HiTek, SkiBeatz etc..)," he tweeted.
"The title Gutter Rainbows was taken from Catcher In The Rye. Info for my literary nerds." (Talib Kweli's Twitter)
Kanye West's "Power" producer S1 recently revealed to SOHH that he worked on nearly 10 records for Kweli's new project.
"I'm working with Kanye on the album," S1 told SOHH. "He's pretty much finishing that up so I've been working real close with him on that. And then also, he has a bunch of other artists and projects that he's working on for his G.O.O.D. Music roster to other outside projects and he wants me to be a part of that as well. I've been working really close with him on that, working with Pusha T on his album stuff, Musiq Soulchild and then eight joints with Talib Kweli for his next album. And then, you never know, hopefully Jay-Z and Beyonce stuff. You just never know where you're going to go." (SOHH)
The LP will serve as Kweli's latest solo album since 2007's Eardrum.
Eardrum debuted at number 2 on the U.S. Billboard 200, selling about 60,000 copies in its first week, making it Kweli's highest debuting album to date. On its second week it fell to #20 with sales of 25,000 copies, selling a total of 85,500 units. (Wikipedia)
Last May, Kweli and producer Hi-Tek's Revolutions Per Minute collaboration project debuted on the sales charts.
Iconic rap duo Talib Kweli & Hi-Tek's Revolutions Per Minute also opened up the charts for the first time this week at No. 18. With seven days in the books, the pair's long-awaited album has sold 21,100 records to date. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
