New York rapper Maino has revealed having three of Eminem's Recovery tracks years before the album's multi-platinum success.
According to Maino, he had Em's lead single "Not Afraid" and two others dating back three years.
"I had three records on Em's album," explained Maino, before revealing that the tracks ultimately became "Not Afraid," "25 to Life," and "Talkin' to Myself." "I recorded that in 2007," he recalled of "Talkin' to Myself." "A lot of times, you record a lot of the album, you record a lot of music before you actually put the music out. What happens is, sometimes you don't actually love everything you do. That particular record, I didn't love my performance on it--to the point where I loved the hook, but I didn't feel like I did it [justice]. I was gonna get back to it and redo it, but I had never done it." (XXL Mag)
Last May, Em's "Not Afraid" record made Billboard history.
Eminem will join a very elite club tomorrow when the new Billboard Hot 100 singles chart is unveiled. "Not Afraid" is the lead single from Eminem's new album "Recovery," due out on June 22. The single is the first to debut at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 since Oct. 17, 2009, when Britney Spears' "3" danced in at No. 1. "Afraid" is only the second rap single to start at No. 1 following "I'll Be Missing You" by Puff Daddy & Faith Evans featuring 112, which began its 11-week run at the summit on the chart dated June 14, 1997. His "Talkin' 2 Me" track, which Maino also passed on, revealed past intentions to publicly call out Lil Wayne and Kanye West.
"Hatred was flowing through my veins, on the verge of going insane, I almost made a song dissing Lil Wayne. It's like I was jealous of him because of the attention he was getting, I felt horrible about myself. He was spittin' and I wasn't. Anyone who was buzzin back then could of got it, almost went at Kanye too. God it feels like I'm going psychotic. Thank god that I didn't do it, I would of had my a** handed to me. And I knew it, but Proofisn't here to see me through it...." ("Talkin' 2 Myself")
Since dropping in June, Em's new LP has sold over 2 million copies.
Grammy-winning rapper Eminem's Recovery moved up a notch to No. 2 with 81,000 copies falling one slot behind Sara Bareilles' Kaleidoscope Heart which sold 89,500 records. According to Nielsen SoundScan, the rapper's new album has sold 2,501,400 records to date. (SOHH Sales Wrap)
