"Emo rapper" Kid Cudi has discussed his reasons for approaching the dark side on his upcoming Man on the Moon 2 album.

Cudder said that the sophomore project was originally set to be a collaboration LP.

"I wanted this album to be fun, but the dark sh*t was my life at that time [when I made 'Erase Me.'] I was fighting not to write that sh*t. It got frustrating writing a collab album--I just lost interest, and it became more of a task, rather than something I wanted to do. That's not how it's supposed to feel. The day it becomes work, you need to retire...'Erase Me' was fun as f*ck to make, but it's just different. It was me f*cking around, just to show people I can do whatever. That's my main goal now, just to show people no matter what I do, I'm going to make sh*t that's in good taste. Might not be your cup of tea, but it's going to be authentic, it's not going to be forced. When I made ['Erase Me'], I was like, 'This beat sounds fresh as h*ll, I want to do some rock sh*t'--and I did it. I came up with that sh*t in 30 minutes. I was feeling it, and then I was like, 'This sh*t ain't Cudder, it's just me f*cking around, let me stop bullsh*tting." (Complex)

Earlier this month, Cudi revealed a few of his album's guest appearances.

"Man, uh, when it comes to features, I kinda just stick to my homies," Cudi said in an interview. "My peoples, Chip Tha Ripper, GLC [who is] a G.O.O.D. Music affiliate, got my boy Cage over there, and Mary J. Blige on the album. Uh, you know, we got Cee-Lo on the album. It's just really taking off where we last stopped." (Spike TV)

The album is expected to hit retail stores in late October.

The "Day 'N' Nite" rapper's sophomore set Man on the Moon 2: The Legend of Mr. Rager is now on the release schedule for October 26, Rap-Up.com has learned. It was previously slated for September 28. The hopes for a G.O.O.D. Music release day were dashed when his label Universal Motown moved the album back from its original September 14 date, the same day Kanye West is scheduled to drop his fifth album. (Rap-Up)

Last May, Cudi blogged about his "Dance Yrself Clean"-inspired record that also featured Chip Tha Ripper.

"thanx for all the love on the new joint yall. i really appreciate it sincerely. this was a idea i had that me and Chip decided to do for fun. as of right now its not on anything, we just recorded it and put it out just for the f*ck of it. itll be awhile til MOTM2 (still gunnin' for Aug release or Sept), so i might keep releasing some fun joints here and there. ill keep you all posted faaashow."
