Chicago emcee Common has shared his thoughts on the recent re-emergence of Kanye West and if he's likely to appear on his next album.
Despite being close to completion, Common is still optimistic about guest-starring on the untitled record.
"Man I ain't on there right now. I got a couple lines on this new G.O.O.D. music song that just came out, but maybe I will be on the album you know if it's not done yet, it would be cool...[Kanye and I are] definitely going to do some music though. Yes, I'm working on [a new album] now, I know I said I was working on it before, I was, but then I stopped and did promo for "Just Wright," then stopped and did this TV show and was doing a couple other things that I needed to do. But now I'm focused, and working and I'm really- in all reality, I believe that the new album will come out in the spring. I'm looking at around April or May for the new album. It's called The Believer. I had that title for a while to be honest. The time has come. It's coming." (All Hip Hop)
Aiming for a November 16th release, West recently talked about wanting his new LP to be filled with joy.
"Everyone says all great art comes from pain but I think my greatest art comes from excitement and joy. It's a completely different perspective about being extremely excited about stuff that is only cool to me," West said in a recent Rolling Stone office visit. "Like, when I tweeted, 'What's your credenza game?' I was very excited about that credenza...It was important to not be limited by the art form of rap but to have rap bring it to another level. Is it rap or is it poetry? Is it spoken word? Is it [a] speech?" (MTV)
West is also putting together a 40-minute film based on the upcoming LP.
"I'm color-correcting this film I shot in Prague a couple weeks ago. I want to edit the film on a boat. Where are the good editing boats?" -- is called Runaway, and is a 40-minute noir piece based on his new album. "It's the story of a phoenix fallen to Earth, and I make her my girlfriend, and people discriminate against her and eventually she has to burn herself alive and go back to her world," he told us. "I've been feeling the idea of the phoenix. It's been in my heart for a while. It's maybe parallel to my career. I threw a Molotov cocktail on my career last year, in a way, and I had to come back as a better person." Is it weird that we wanted to hug him? Like, somebody, please find this man his missing fish tank, you know?" (New York Magazine)
He is also putting together an upcoming EP with Jay-Z called Watch the Thorne.
"Me and jay bout to drop a 5 song album called "Watch the Throne"," Ye wrote Friday (August 27) evening.
"'MONSTER' ..... Happy GOOD Friday!!! The second song off of me and Jay album!http://www.kanyeuniversecity.com/blog/." (Kanye West's Twitter)
