Former Shady Records artist Obie Trice's tax records have leaked online and show the rapper owing over $298,000 to the Internal Revenue Service.
His debt is in relation to a June 2010 tax lien filed against him.
Detroit rapper Obie Trice, who survived a New Year's Eve shooting on the Lodge freeway in 2005, is ducking a shot from the Internal Revenue Service, which claims the Eminem pal owes more than $298,000 in delinquent taxes. The IRS filed a $298,051 tax lien against Trice on June 21 with the Wayne County Register of Deeds. The address on the lien is his mother's house in Detroit. Trice could not be reached for comment. His father, also named Obie Trice, said he would try to pass a message along to his son. He didn't know anything about the tax lien. Well, he knew one thing: "I know that's not me," he said Wednesday. "I've never made that kind of money to get that kind of tax debt." (Detroit News)
In 2008, Trice was released from Shady Records.
"Shady Records has agreed to allow Obie Trice to pursue his craft in a different forum free from the constraints of the current major label model," Em's manager Paul Rosenberg said in a statement. "Eminem will continue to support and work with Obie on many levels of his career. He remains a close friend and member of the Shady family." (Rap Basement)
Recently, Shady's Cashis talked about his relationship with the former labelmate.
"That's probably it they didn't want to wait any more," he said in an interview. "Patience is a virtue like you could be upset with your momma, but at the end of the day that's not what you feel. I can't really speak on their situation like why they left or whatever. Obie is my partner straight up he's a real dude. He's doing good so some things are meant to be but I can't speak on other peoples situation. I support them in whatever they do and no one has ever left Shady Records talking really crazy so it's always a mutual split." (Q The Question)
Last year, Obie Trice spoke with SOHH about releasing his latest solo compilation, Special Reserve.
"Me and my man [MoSS] from Toronto, h*ll of a producer, we're putting the music out there that we did back in the day and just putting it out there, it's some old-school, new-school hip-hop sh*t," Obie told SOHH. "When Bottom's Up comes out, then we'll talk about that Shady sh*t. This is some of the music that signed me to Eminem's label." (SOHH)
