Actor/Rapper Nick Cannon has stepped forward to address rumors that his wife, Mariah Carey, is pregnant after recent performance photos show a more plump than usual singer.
Although he did not confirm or deny reports, Cannon discussed the matter on his morning radio show and said he would let his wife announce a pregnancy if or when that day comes.
"I've said it before and I'll say it time and time again -- when my wife feels like talking about whatever she wants to talk about, you will hear it directly from her. We know that we're public figures and that's something but...that's something that you want to keep near and dear... until you're 100 percent sure in any situation...There's a certain time limit that you're supposed to wait before you actually can officially say that you are. You've got to take all those things into factor and it gets really heightened when you're one of the most famous people in the world because you don't want to mislead anybody." (Rap-Up)
Prior to his public address, Cannon went on Twitter to discuss pregnancy rumors.
"If & when my wife is ready to make ANY announcements about private matters she will do it personally. Thanks for being respectful GodBless," he tweeted back in June.
"My heart goes out to any woman who has to deal with public scrutiny and speculation pertaining to their private life REAL TALK!" (Nick Cannon's Twitter)
Pregnancy speculation began to intensify in late spring.
In May, Carey dropped out of Tyler Perry's forthcoming movie "For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf"; that sparked chatter about her being pregnant, and she has maintained a relatively low profile since then. But over the weekend, Carey was seen in a body-obscuring black princess gown at the Barretos International Rodeo in Barretos, Brazil. The photos re-ignited the rumors that the singer is indeed expecting a bundle of joy. (MTV)
The couple have been married for over two years.
Although the couple has made no secret of their desire to start a family since they wed on April 30, 2008, they've relished their child-free years by renewing their vows and holding true to other traditions. (OK Magazine)
