The host for next month's annual MTV Video Music Awards will be comedian and television personality Chelsea Handler.
The announcement was made during her nightly E! talk show, "Chelsea Lately."
For one special evening, Chelsea Handler is bringing her late-night raunch to primetime: Handler will be hosting the MTV Video Music Awards. The comedienne announced the gig on her E! talk show, "Chelsea Lately," on Wednesday (August 18). "Everyone knows that when you think of rap music and hip-hop you think of 'Chelsea Lately.' And that's why I will be hosting [the show]," Handler quipped, before urging her staff to vie for the extra tickets MTV gave her. "Let the a**-kissing begin," the funnywoman smiled. Handler will work the mic at this year's awards show which airs live from Los Angeles on September 12 at 9 p.m. (MTV)
This year's show will feature new nominees including Drake, Nicki Minaj and B.o.B.
"My own personal goals have been coming to pass lately, compared to where I was," says B.o.B. "My perspective is just enjoying it and watching it unfold." Although the 2010 VMAs, which will air live from Los Angeles' Nokia Theater on Sept. 12, have not announced any scheduled performers yet, B.o.B said that he would be game to take the stage. "I definitely would," he says. "Why not? That's like, 'Let's party!'" B.o.B. also said that he was "not surprised" to hear of Lady Gaga's record 13 VMA nominations because of how innovative her music videos have become. "She's already made her mark in history," he says. (Billboard)
Following the nominees announcement, Eminem released a playful statement sharing his reaction.
"Apparently MTV doesn't care that I have two massive stadium shows on the other side of the country the day after the VMAs. F me, right?!?!," says the rapper, who's up for Best Male and Best Hip Hop Videos. "I mean, I'll be there but don't expect me to be nice about it." (PEOPLE)
Drake and Minaj will both be present at this year's ceremony.
Drake, who is nominated for two awards including Best MaleVideo and Best Hip-Hop Video, will perform at the event with Minaj currently billed as an award presenter. The ceremony, which takes place on September 12, will also see a performance from Kanye West. (Gigwise)
