[West Coast rap veteran Ras Kass talks college shows versus club performances.]
I've performed at a lot of schools, like the University of Southern California (USC) and University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). I've done college shows at a lot of Southern spots, doing shows there and it's always been a blessing to meet a lot of the people that take the time to listen to the things I say and for them to even be college attendees or prisoners, they got nothing but time to study and do what they got to do. I always appreciate a college audience.
Every time I've performed at a school, I've did my show with no restrictions. A lot of times with college performances, you might be outside and that's really the only difference from if I were to perform at a club. Them n*ggas in college really go hard and have a good time. They come to these shows to have a good time. Sometimes you go to a club and they just came there to look cool. So you can't really get nobody to get into the crowd participation.
Usually, from my experience, college shows are really cool because everybody came to have fun. As far as how the overall vibe is comparing a college show to a club show, I don't take it any differently. If I do a show, no matter where it's at, I try to give 110 percent. And even if there's just one n*gga that gets it, then I did my job. I don't view an extreme difference between colleges and clubs, once again, it is true, n*ggas in college are drunk and like to get turned up and they came to have fun. It's not so much, "Oh, I bought a bottle and sh*t and now I'm the n*gga." It's a lot less of that bullsh*t that takes place. It's a lot less of that status sh*t.
I always get good energy from colleges. I can honestly admit that. It's fun being able to do shows at schools. That's what I want to do next, get a college tour started.
