G.O.O.D. Music's GLC has cleared the air for fans confused about whether or not Kanye West's company is an official record label.
GLC claims each artist must seek out their own distribution deal.
"G.O.O.D Music isn't a label for one; a lot of people have the misconception that G.O.O.D Music is a label but really it's basically a family and like a production company. What they do is you get a distribution deal and if you're a G.O.O.D Music artist, then you come out on G.O.O.D Music and the distribution deal. Whoever I decide to do my deal with it will be through G.O.O.D Music because I'm a G.O.O.D Music artist." (Hip Hop DX)
The company is credited as being a label with artists like Common and John Legend.
GOOD Music is a record label founded by music producer and artist Kanye West. "GOOD" is an acronym for "Getting Out Our Dreams". John Legend and Common were the first to sign to the label; their albums, Get Lifted and Be, respectively, (both executive-produced by West) were both critically acclaimed and combined were nominated for 7 Grammy Award nominations. Get Lifted had three nominations and Be four. (Wikipedia)
G.O.O.D. Music's Consequence recently talked about his associates, including West and Kid Cudi, all dropping new albums on the same day this September.
"Well...the idea for doing the G.O.O.D Music Day emerged between me and [Universal Motown Records President] Sylvia Rhone, just to be quite honest," Cons revealed in an interview. "I'm very communicative with Sylvia Rhone on everything that I do. We had actually met with Kanye one night, and as me and her left the meeting, we left together and I was like, 'Yo, we need to really get this paper right now.' When we left we thought that this is where we need to take advantage of the situation. So...she got on the phone...made some boss calls, and then we got to it. At the time when [Big] Sean announced that [he was also dropping his album on September 14th] I didn't know that he was in the mix of that, but it's all good. But initially, how that sh*t came about was me, Kanye and Kid Cudi. I just hadn't announced it because I know we had things that had to be ironed out. And it got ironed out where it's - 'Cause actually at the end of the day, Kanye being the head of G.O.O.D Music had to approve that. And the approval was based on, 'Let's shake the game up.' Cudi got the kids, Cons got the streets, 'Ye got the globe, so we all gon' eat. [Laughs]" (Hip Hop DX)
Big Sean initially broke the news of their albums dropping on the same date last month.
"September 14, 2010 My album Finally Famous x Kanye West album Good A** Job x Kid Cudi album Man on the Moon pt 2 RT #GOODMUSIC," he wrote over the weekend. (Big Sean's Twitter)
