Details on the upcoming Kanye West "Power" music video have begun to circulate online suggesting that he's taking a decidedly artistic approach.
According to reports, West linked with artist Marco Brambilla for assistance on the video.
In a coming video for his single "Power" that was created by the artist Marco Brambilla, Mr. West is seen standing imposingly with a heavy chain around his neck. As Mr. West raps the camera slowly zooms out in one continuous, unedited take to reveal him in a classical structure, surrounded by female attendants who are partly or entirely nude; some kneel before him on all fours, others wear devil horns and still others are suspended upside down from the ceiling. The Sword of Damocles hangs precariously over Mr. West's head, and behind him an unseen executioner is preparing to strike him with a blade. Separate reports from earlier this month said West wrapped up his video from the Big Apple on Saturday, July 3rd.
Kanye shot the video for the first single, "Power," of his upcomingalbum in New York this week. Photos from the sets have leaked on the Internet. In the shots we have two pics from the set which don't really reveal too much aside from Kanye West serving himself at a catering table...but it seems like we'll get to see some booty in the vid... Ye's Def Jam labelmate Ne-Yo recently talked with SOHH about the rapper's new song.
"I feel like Kanye is one of the smartest dudes in the musicbusiness," Ne-Yo told SOHH. "And I say that to anybody. He caught a little bit of flack behind that Taylor Swift situation or whatever and so he moved away from it, let the fire die down and came back with something undeniable. That 'Power' record is ridiculous to me and he's back on his thing, he's talking sh*t and that's what Kanye do. It's one of those records that you hear one time and you're like, 'Yeah, Kanye's back.' I feel like the summer is about to be something crazy." (SOHH)
"Power" collaborator, Dwele, recently shared his experience working on the new record.
"I got there [to the studio], and 'Ye had an idea for what he wanted for the song," Dwele explained when describing the song. "So that's all his creation. Pretty much all I did was my thing: I added harmonies and lent my instrument for the joint...I think it's dope. I think [the record] is doing what it's supposed to do, as far as letting people know he's back to rapping. He got some bars on that joint. I enjoy it. It's one of those joints. I roll down the windows and ride out to it. I usually don't play stuff that I'm on, but that song bangs." (MTV)
