Bad Boy Records CEO Sean "Diddy" Combs has addressed his interest in filling a judge vacancy on the televised music competition show, "American Idol."
Speaking with television host George Lopez this week, Diddy displayed his interest.
"At first when people were asking me if I was interested in the job I was like no...that's not my style," Diddy said to George Lopez on Wednesday's "Lopez Tonight." "But once I heard what Simon makes - I would love the job. I've got six kids. If I would get the same check Simon gets, we would have a ball." (CBS News)
Former "Idol" contestant Jordin Sparks believes Diddy would be a great fit for the show.
"Diddy might be a good replacement," Jordin tells me during the Celebrity Pet Product Showcase. "We'd have to tell him that he'd have to work on the cussing, but in terms of personality, they definitely are the same because they say what's on their minds. They've been in the industry for a while. He would be good. But Bret Michaels might replace him, too." Jordin sighs, "It's going to be different without Paula and Simon, so we'll see what happens." In May, Diddy said he was interested in taking a run as an "Idol" judge.
"I have been fronting all this time, trying to act like I don't want that spot," he said in an interview. "[But] I spoke to Simon's business manager, and I found out how much that boy makes a week. I am praying right now to 'American Idol,' ... I want everybody to get on Twitter, MySpace, Facebook and say that Diddy should get the Simon spot -- but for the same amount of money that Simon was getting, else it's a deal-breaker. I'm tired of being cool: That number that Simon was getting a week is ridiculous. I can't even be cool with that. Please, can I have the job, whoever's in charge of giving that job?" (MTV)
Diddy ex-girlfriend/actress Jennifer Lopez is also being considered for the gig.
Ellen DeGeneres, who never got comfort telling young singers to go back to their day jobs, has abruptly quit as a judge on "American Idol." Jennifer Lopez is poised to take Ellen DeGeneres' place, according to multiple reports. PEOPLE magazine quoted an insider saying, "It's true, she's excited about it." OK! Magazine said an "Idol" source revealed, "They are ironing out contracts . . . so unless something goes wrong, it's a done deal." (Fox News)
