Young Money's Nicki Minaj recently slammed the door on rumors of her dating Bad Boy Records CEO Diddy.
In addition to addressing the dating rumor, Minaj spoke on wanting longevity in hip-hop.
"I am still hungry though, I guess I'm not hungry in a monetary way," Minaj told radio personality DJ Envy. "But I'm hungry like, I want to know what it feels like to be able to have 10 albums under my belt, and I think when you're a perfectionist, when you're an artist, you want to be great at your craft and right now, that's where I am. I feel like, you know what, yes, I am a new artist, I still have to put out an album, I still have to prove myself. I still have to prove myself to me...[Dating Diddy?] That is, wait, can I just say, I hold everybody's hands! I hold my bodyguard's hands! Noooo [I'm not dating Diddy!] Listen, sometimes I think they know these things are false. But when people ask me, I think, 'I didn't even know I was gonna have to even address that.' -- when I'm ready [to announce new management], you'll know." ("Sucker Free")
Speculation on an alleged romantic relationship began to stir in late April when their pictures landed online.
WOW. I don't know who I need to talk to to get in these cool people circles, but I feel more like an outsider every second. Rawse and Nicki Minaj were reportedly out at the LA nightclub Guys & Dolls with Diddy and the rest of the Ciroc Boys. Somebody also said that TI was there, but I didn't think TI was coming out like that yet. Now, I'm not trying to start anything, but somebody said it looked like Nicki and Amber Rose were a couple there. Again, not starting anything. These two are friends anyway. Then there are these pix...Diddy and Nicki...hand-in-hand. Nicki looks tired...and maybe upset. (All Hip Hop)
Last month, Diddy spoke on believing in Minaj's "greatness."
And now, Nicki Minaj is finalizing the paperwork that will allow the Last Train to Paris superstar to guide her career. The Young Money femcee has already been in the studio with Diddy, and he's been singing her praises. "Nicki Minaj, she's definitely one of the great ones," Diddy told MTV News while promoting "Get Him to the Greek," speaking publicly for the first time about his new signee. "She has a long way to go, but you know how we recognized LeBron [James] was a great one, Tiger [Woods] was a great one, and Kobe [Bryant] was a great one? Nicki is up there. Her story has just begun." (MTV)
Minaj is reportedly aiming to drop her debut album in the fall.
"Young Money/Cash Money/Universal Motown recording artist Nicki Minaj will release her highly anticipated solo debut album in Fall 2010. 'I don't want to do anything that sounds like what any other female rapper has done,' said Nicki Minaj. 'I want to start a new lane that one day, 10 years from now, girls will say, 'I'm more of a Nicki Minaj type.'" (Cash Money Records Press Release)
