Exclusive: Dr. Dre's "Detox" Could Realistically Drop This Year, DJ Skee Says "It's Close To Being Done"

West Coast radio personality DJ Skee recently spoke with SOHH about the buzz surrounding Dr. Dre's upcoming Detox album and said a 2010 release is possible.
Skee believes the album may drop this year in light of the producer's recent success with the Beats by Dre headphone line.
"Well according to Scott [Storch] and a a bunch of other people, it's close to being done," Skee told SOHH. "But Scott's kinda jumping it, just because they have a few more records left probably means they gotta record a couple hundred more just to make Dre happy. Dre is the ultimate perfectionist and he should be, you know, he hasn't released his own solo album in years and it seems like he doesn't have to make any more money or do anything else but because of the Beats by Dre [headphones], it kinda put him back in the national mainstream limelight and I think where hip-hop is at today, by him actually having records that he's happy with, I think it might realistically have a chance of coming out later this year, we'll see. I wouldn't be surprised if it came out this year. I wouldn't be surprised if it 'didn't' [laughs], but at the same time I actually think it is realistic but with Beats by Dre and all these other [ventures], it's almost pushing him, like, people are ready and people have been ready but now it's even on another level. I just can't wait to hear what his album is gonna sound like in all those headphones, too..." (SOHH)
Producer Scott Storch recently told Skee what Detox will have to offer fans.
"I think people will be pleasantly surprised when they hear it. It's definitely a departure from a lot of the stuff Dre has done and the stuff Dre and I have done in the past. It's a hybrid...I think he's looking for like three more records...So that should take about 400 records to get those three. He's got pretty high standards." (DJ Skee TV)
Recent reports suggest Detox will land in stores this fall.
Will we be able to get our hands on Detox this year? Dr. Dre provided the latest update on when his long-delayed opus will finally arrive in stores. "The song with Jay-Z should be out next month. We'll see how that goes," the Doc told Terrence and Rocsi on Wednesday's "106 & Park." The first single, "Under Pressure," features Jay-Z and production from Scott Storch. As for the album, Dre gave us a reason to want a short summer. "Hopefully at the beginning of fall," he revealed. (Rap-Up)
Rap veteran Ice Cube is reportedly going to be on Dre's solo album.
"Dre is a master. What's cool about working with Dre is he stays the same. Everyone else change and trip, but I remember working with Dre back when we just in the garage. Just the two of us. And he works the same way. Don't come up with an empty palette, bring a lot of ideas to the plate...He's making a great record. I'm on it. I'm proud to be, I can't wait to get back to L.A. to get back in the studio with him. I'm trying to get a few tracks for my record I Am The West that's coming out in July." (All Hip Hop)
No further details have been revealed as of now.
